When we moved into our new house, the previous owner had left it in a bit of a state. The kitchen especially, had been left quite grubby looking and in need of a good clean. We made a start, but soon ran out of cleaning products, so made a dash to our nearest ASDA to stock up. Although I would normally purchase Flash sprays (I’m especially keen on the Flash with Febreze), I felt that something a little stronger was required in this case, so came away with a bottle of ASDA kitchen cleaner with bleach.

I believe the packaging of this product has recently changed as this is now part of the Chosen by You range. It now comes in a white plastic bottle with a black trigger spray that can be twisted to the on/off position.

The product claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria as well as being fast acting and tough on grease and grime. The bottle states it is safe for use on cookers, kitchen worktops, food preparation surfaces, tiles, bins and fridge doors. Just about every kitchen surface possible then! You cannot use it on soft furnishings, wallpaper, wood, fabric or polished furniture, but I guess that is common sense.

I have used this on pretty much all surfaces in my kitchen – sink, tiles, cooker and benches. I have also used this on the sink in my downstairs toilet, despite the fact that it specifically calls itself a kitchen cleaner and the sink came up beautifully.

When you first spray this, it comes out of the bottle as more of a foam than a liquid. There is a faint smell of bleach, although thankfully it’s not as strong as I had expected it to be, possibly because the cleaner also contains disinfectant and perfume. I do find if I have used this on lots of kitchen surfaces in one go, a very mild bleach smell is left behind in the kitchen.

To use this, I find that all I really need to do with this is spray and wipe, there’s no need to leave it to work in most cases. I always wear gloves when cleaning, so I am not sure how gentle or otherwise this is on the hands. They are not kidding when they say this stuff is fast acting and I find even the toughest stains are shifted very quickly. Last week I had made a beef stew in the slow cooker and my fiancé helped himself to a bowl of what was left, then for some reason left the gravy covered ladle on the bench overnight. It was pretty much welded on and my usual Flash wouldn’t shift it. One spray of this and it came straight off, so I was really quite impressed with that. The other thing I have found this worked brilliantly on is grout. When we moved here, I honestly thought we would have to re-grout the entire kitchen as the grout was filthy, especially around the sink and behind the cooker. A quick squirt of this along with a nylon scrubbing brush and the grout has come up looking bright, white and as good as new. The stainless steel hob which was also in a bit of a state when we moved here, again has come up looking shiny and new, and when I accidentally let a pan boil over, this cleaned off the burnt on marks with ease.

Although I bought this with the intention of using it just on the tougher jobs, I have also used what is remaining on general day to day cleaning, such as wiping down the benches, sink and cooker and it’s perfectly fine for that, although personally I’d prefer something with a nicer fragrance for these particular jobs and save this for tougher stains.

A 500ml bottle of this cost 90p which is on a ‘rollback’ from £1 at ASDA. I am never sure if these ‘rollbacks’ are permanent offers or just for a limited time, but even at the higher price of £1 I think this is good value.

Overall, I’ve been very impressed with this cleaner. I was pleased to find that it does not have a very strong bleach aroma, although I still on the whole prefer something with a bit of a fresher scent for every day jobs. For tough stains and spills though, I think this is excellent and it seems to work well on most surfaces, so I would definitely recommend it.
