Intro

Ever on the lookout to save a few pence these days, and having switched some of our normal weekly shopping items to Asda brand, we were more than happy with the result. So when it came time to replenish my shaving gear it was pretty obvious to me that perhaps their shaving gel might be just as good a bargain.

Asda shaving Gel

At around £1.19 with a saving in the region of 79p I wasn’t really that bothered how good this product would be since having a beard means my shaving time is very short and my shaving experience equally so. My first impression of this turquoise coloured gel was that it pretty much looked identical to some of the way more expensive branded stuff. It was shiny a pretty colour and it felt the same kind of consistency, the smell was slightly different, but the clean sharp smell I associate with shaving products was still there.

On applying to my rather hairy face, it soon lathered up equally well if not better than the branded products, the foam created with the addition of water and a little massage was however not white as usual, it was a kind of watered down version of the gel as it came out of the somewhat basically designed can. A light bluey green would probably describe the colour of the foam, and at first it felt a bit strange having being used to it being white.

The gel did its job extremely well and there was no adverse drag when shaving the areas I do to highlight the profile of my beard. The razor was as it should have been gliding over the stubble and removing it with little resistance. I also noticed after a few shaves that the redness sometimes achieved whilst shaving was greatly reduced, and the itching which comes with the redness also reduced.

Summary

Having saved 79p and having had probably a better shaving experience, my recommendation for this can be none other than that of delight. The can might not be as impressive on the bathroom shelf as that of Gillette or the like, but the gel certainly is, and as a result I will continue to make a decent saving on my shaving, not that my shaving is as frequent as others.
