When I lived at home many moons ago my mum used to always buy Asda smartprice conditioner simply because it was cheap and because there were both myself, her and my sister with long hair we used quite a lot of it. When I moved out I soon realised that more expensive hair products produced better results on my hair yet I recently found myself purchasing some smartprice conditioner and this is my review.
The product looks very basic and that has to be said from the onset. It comes in a plastic bottle through which you can just about see the outline of the conditioner inside. The bottle has a green and white label with the product and brand name on the front and basic instructions for use, ingredients and recycling information on the back. I can excuse the cheap looking packaging simple because the product is in fact very cheap and at just 24p for a 500ml bottle it proves to be very good value. The actual conditioner is a green coloured liquid and it is quite thin in consistency. It has a slight fragrance to it but it isn’t anything detectable or over bearing. In the days my mum used to buy this product I am pretty sure there used to be a button to press in the cap to release a hole through which you could dispense the conditioner but now you unscrew the lid and pour it directly from the bottle to your hand and due to the thin consistency it does come out quite quickly which is an issue when my son uses it!
The conditioner is easy to apply to the hair and I comb it through mine or my son’s hair using my fingers. I find that for my sons hair around a fifty pence piece sized blob of conditioner is enough but for my long and thick hair considerably more is required. I have found that once it is washed out of my sons hair it does make his hair feel quite nice and soft but it is not really effective on my thick hair at all other than slightly coating it which I would rather didn’t happen anyway.Despite the conditioner not being great on my hair this wasn’t really an issue for me because the main reason I bought this product wasn’t for my hair strangely enough! As a teen I remembered this product being highly effective balm to put on the legs whilst shaving them in the shower or the bath! The thin conditioner covers the legs well and act as a balm so the razor glides over the skin and helps to prevent nicks in the skin. Obviously this isn’t the purpose of the product but it works well for me and it is much cheaper than actual shaving gels and just as effective I have found!
I also think that this product would be a good conditioner for children’s hair because it does work well on my son’s hair and has not given him any problems in terms of allergic reactions and such like as it does seem quite gentle. For the ridiculously low price I cannot grumble at this purchase as it works well for us….as a conditioner for my son and as a shaving balm for me!Thank you for reading my review!
