We get through a fair bit of coffee in my house and although I'm pretty sure that everyone would prefer to drink Douwe Egberts, I'm also pretty sure that our budget won't stretch to that so we quite often end up buying Asda Smartpruce medium roast instant coffee granules.

This coffee is a part of the Asda Smartprice range and so is only available in Asda stores where you will find it selling at just 47p for a 100g jar! I have seen the price go up and down a few times over the last year, it's only been 53p at it's highest though! Although I can't say that this is a particularly great coffee, the price really does make it attractive when you're on a tight budget.

The packaging is a little different to the Ciao picture (which is of the old style packaging). The jar is still very much the same, a plain glass jar with a white lid, but the label now features green writing and a picture of a cup of coffee. I find the new label fairly attractive for a budget brand.

Making this coffee is very simple as it's instant, so just put your coffee and hot water in a cup with any milk and sugar required and that's it, same as any other instant coffee!
When it comes to drinking this stuff, well, as I said before it's not a particularly great coffee but it's not awful or anything either. My other half moans that you need a fair bit of coffee in each cup as it's not strong enough, but then I am pretty certain that he uses lots of any coffee! I have never received comments either good or bad from guests, so I tend to assume that this stuff is satisfactory.
I have on occasion bought more expensive coffee and mixed it with a jar of this so that we end up with better coffee and can still keep the costs down.

Overall I think this stuff deserves four stars as although I have nothing fantastic to say about the taste, I have nothing awful to say either and at 47p a jar you really can't complain!
