Asrock are a fairly new up and coming company. I have just built a new computer and used this motherboard as the basis for it.
Before buying this motherboard I did a lot of research into the board itself, read reviews, compared prices and looked at its chipset and CPU information.
The ASROCK board is part of the AMD line of CPU's. Now Im not much of a techincal whizz so I will give you as much information as I can do. However feel free to ask if you need any further advice or info as Id be pleased to try and help!
General Specifications:- 3 DIMM slots which can support upto 266, 300 and 400DDR Ram. 400 Mhz FSB (Front Side Bus) ATA 133 4 USB 2.0 ports AGP 8x 6 PCI slots Onboard Lan network adapter 5.1 audio onboard sound 2 temperature sensors Uses the latest AMI BIOS
Benefits:- The 462 socket on this motherboard features ASROCK's U-COP (Universal CPU Overheating Protection). THis will shut down your computer is the processor overheats, saving your processor.
What you get with this board:- Not much really, but at such as cheap price its understandable. You get the standards, such as the driver CD, IDE cables, Manual, Setup instructions etc. and of course the motherboard itself.
One thing I found highly amusing was the fact that on the driver CD you get a lady instructing you how to set up the motherboard, now this I found amusing as firstly you need a working PC to be able to use the disc and generally if you are installing a motherboard you don't have one (well I didn't), but also she shows you the basics however refers you to the manual the majority of the time so to me this 'extra' was worthless and pointless.
The layout of this board differs from most as the positioning of the ATX connector is in the centre of the board and the AGP slot is next to the northbridge heatsink.
I would not say that this board is modern, the colour scheme is something to be discussed. I personally have opted for a PC case with a see-through side panel, so the board does not stand out. What happened to bright colours people, the green is standard and dull.
As for general installation of the components such as the Heatsink & fan, processor, RAM etc. I found these quite simple and easy to install. I did not have any problems with tricky areas where you just cannot get your screwdriver! Such as on other motherboards I have used!
Price wise: Dabs.com is £32.00 E-PCS.co.uk is £28.20 See below for the link to prices:
Finally my recommendation.... Well This product is a worthwhile basis for any computer and component. ASROCK certainly are very attractive on price and ease of use / installtion compared to other market leaders. This motherboard can handle upto a 3000 processor so it is certainly up-to-date with technology and a good investment for any company or sole individual.
Advantages: works cheap Disadvantages: there isnt none
...i settled with a asrock for only half of what i usually pay.
i had onboard sound i had usbs so all i needed to do was replace everything from my other board .
great it works and you wouldnt even know it was not a gigabyte it still does the same jobs for me the main one is that it works.
i will definately buy another if it was to break again .
in fact all my family members in the home have now got asrock boards they even come with lan cards too ...
