ASUS CD / floppy combo drive

Advantages: Perfect with dvd's
Disadvantages: major problem after using lightscribe

...Have never had any problems with asus products until now. Everything was working fine until I used the lightscribe function for the first time, now it absolutely refuses to recognise any cd, dvd's work perfectly, both reading and writing, but when a cd is loaded all the drive does is make a hell of a racket. The drive is exactly one week old so my course of action was to go to the Asus web site to see if it was possibly something simple like a software glitch. What I found on the forum was a lot more people with the same problem, who have all followed the recommended solutions (even down to flashing the drive and using different software) but still can't get their drives to work. Advantages: Fast, reliable, and 64-bit compatible...
Disadvantages: Not compatible with all memory sticks...

...customer service for help. They said that it was the memory sticks that I was using that were the problem. So I replaced them and my system worked fine thereafter. Since my previous motherboard was an Asus, I did not have any trouble tuning the Bios settings. After reading the manual, I figured out that I can turn off the features that I do not need (like the SATA/RAID controllers) to speed up the boot process. The Award BIOS offers great flexibility and can be updated via a variety of sources (Bootable Floppy, or Asus Update utility). I like to use the Asus Update utility to flash the bios with the latest updates, it is quick and simple to use. It is very easy to add SATA drives to the two SATA ports.
