The ASUS CRW-5224A delivers cutting-edge CD-RW performance with innovative CAV (constant angular velocity) writing strategy. The result is ultimate reliability and performance for music compilation, data backups and smooth audio playback. And of course, ASUS patented technologies such as FlextraLink, FlextraSpeed, DDSS II and AI auto-speed adjustment are also available in this top-quality optical drive to allow 24X/52X re/writing speeds. CAV (constant angular velocity) writing strategy significantly shortens recording time and achieves higher average recording speed when compared to other high-speed CD-RW drives on the market. Statistics from the ASUS R&D lab demonstrated that with a maximum speed of 52X, the recording time for a full 650MB CD can be minimized to less than 2.5 minutes. FlextraLink prevents buffer underrun problems caused by an empty data buffer, thereby eliminating the creation of CD-coasters. Throughout the recording process, FlextraLink consistently monitors the data buffer status to ensure best recording quality under high speed. FlextraSpeed enhances accuracy and reliability when writing/re-writing across a broad base of certified media. It continuously monitors the recording media and sets the optimal writing speeds to ensure best recording quality. DDSS II is an enhanced follow-up to the first generation Double Dynamic Suspension System developed by ASUS and designed to minimize the vibration caused by the spindle motor and resonance between components as well as the drive and PC case. Auto Speed Adjustment Technology helps the drive function in the best status and adjusts its read speed in accordance with the quality of a variety of certified media in different formats when reading them. To ensure product quality and performance, the ASUS CRW-5224A is Windows XP Logo certified and supports Mt. Rainier. The ASUS CRW-5224A is equipped with dust-proof mechanical design to prevent dust from coming into the drive, which can seriously damage the inside key components, such as pick-up head. The higher speed a drive delivers, the louder the noise it is when under operation. In order to effectively control the noise, AFF (air flow field modification technology) is implemented to the ASUS CRW-5224A.
