Advantages Very quiet, Good 'bang-for-your-buck'
Disadvantages Not very overclockable, can get hot.
My friend asked me to build him a gaming rig at a reasonable price. And if you are on a tight budget this card is excellent. Also if you want to build a quiet rig this card is excellent due to the passive heatsink with no fans.
I put this card in a machine with the folloowing specs:Amd 64 3800+
Asus K8V-VM mobo
1 Gig of Geil RAM
160Gig Seagate SATA II HDD
450 Watt power supply
The fact that the card is only passive (no fan) means that it will make no noise at all, which is always good especially if you want to make a very quiet rig. On the downside this limits its overclocking ability as higher clock speeds means more heat and the passive heatsink wont be able to cope. But it is possible to buy an aftermarket fan (i reccomend zalman) and remove this passive one and replace it.
Performance wise this 7600GS is on par with a 6800GT and and the ATi equivalent an X800GTO. In games it is more than adequate. You can max the detail in all the Source games (HL2, counter strike: source etc) and still get a very fluid frame rate of at least 40+ The same goes for other games such as FEAR it can run at med settings quite happily. But with some of the newer games it does struggle a bit (games such as Oblivion ,STALKER and FSX for example) but these games are still playable with low detail settings.Overall considering the amount i paid (around £70) it is a great card. If you want a cheap upgrade or a temporary solution this card is ideal.
