During my recent search for a laptop i found this rather smart looking item and decided to check it out. The first thing that struck me was the tiny size. I began to wonder what they could have put inside with it being so small. I was pleasantly suprised to find the new Atom processor running at 1.6ghz. This may sound like a cut down version of other intel processors but it isn't quite that. In fact it is custom designed by Intel for the internet. This is great news for avid internet fans. Other tasks are also well handled by this new processor and in a wonderful stroke of design Intel have managed to make an almost silent processor. It is extremely quiet. The processor fan's quietness is one thing but the more suprising thing is the temperature. The fan doesn't have to make a noise because the new processor is so cool and thus means less stress on the components. The screen is naturally rather small but is perfectly clear and not too shiny. The operating system is a departure from Windows but it is designd to be easy to use and after a short while you will no doubt get used to it. The screens and menus are all easily set out and the whole experience is quite clear and easy to follow. The sound whilst not anything special will suffice but don't expect to use this machine to store lots of music or films. The hard drive is a solid state 20gb version which means only a small space in which to store things but a much more responsive and cooler running hard drive. This may sound like a problem but really, with the overall package being so well designed for its purpose (and the sheer portability) this laptop doesn't really lose any of my admiration. It is a quality, well designed laptop and whilst not having the space to store much it has enough where it counts. I think the price is just right and altogether had i not found something more trained to my needs i would have instantly bought this. To sum up, if you want a cheap but quality laptop for internet and office use then this is perfect. However, if you're looking for something with more space but love this as much as i do then get a cheap external hard drive and i'm sure you'll have a happy life together. Well done ASUS.
