Asus P5K Premium review

Advantages: Highly overclockable, nice layout, fairly priced
Disadvantages: Cheaper motherboards are available...

The P5K Premium was the first motherboard I considered buying when I decided it was time to upgrade my CPU to a Core 2 Quad Q6600. I was very happy with the results - the P5K allowed me to overclock my processor by 1.2GHz to a stable 3.6GHz on air cooling alone. I'm sure that this stability is partly due to the large heatpipes seen on the board, keeping key components cool without the need for more noisy fans. However, these heatpipes may block larger HSFs from being used, although my rather large Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme did fit. The BIOS is, as BIOSes go, not exactly revolutionary, but still easy to use and overclock with. I'm sure that the option to instantly save settings to a USB stick will come in handy, although I haven't needed it yet due to the stability of the board. The board also allowed me to overclock my PC2 ...

Review of ASUS P5K Premium/WiFi-AP Black Pearl Special Edition - motherboard - ATX - iP35

Packed with features. Incredibly easy to overclock

Advantages: Easy overclocking, well laid out, packed with features
Disadvantages: One IDE port, expensive.

6600 model for example defaults at 2.4Ghz but even an overclocking novice with aircooling could quite easily get one of these chips to 3Ghz and the performance increase is quite amazing. However to get it there you need an expensive board as very few of the cheap ones can produce high overclocks. This is where the Asus P5K range come in. They are the high end Asus boards taking over the 975 and 965 chipset boards with the all new P35 chipset. It is arguable that the new chipset doesn't actually offer anything over the 965 chipset in terms of overclocking but what the P35 does give you is the compatibility with new faster processors soon to be released. Clearly seeing as the prices of high end 975 and 965 boards are roughly the same as the P5K Deluxe it makes sense to aquire a little future proofing too. The board itself is packed ...

Review of ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP AiLifestyle Series - motherboard - ATX - iP35

A great ASUS motherboard

Advantages: Lots of ports/features, price.
Disadvantages: Slow to pass bois post

I brought this from ebuyer a few months back, for my new system build. I wanted a motherboard which had plenty of features/ports etc, without braking the bank, and this does just that. With 4 USB port, 7.1 surround sound audio card, 4 rear USB ports + 2 headers, Printer Port, and even 2 PCI-E 16X for SLi and 2 PCI-E and 2 PCI card slots, which is a good use of the slots available, with the PCI-E sure to be used more in the future, with it's smaller and faster slot. So, after unpacking, I found there to be a lot of accessories with this board, keeping up to ASUS's standards. I applied the headers to the case and installed the motherboard easy enough, connected everything up etc. and it was up and running. After setting itself up, I was able to install the operating system. The board had no problem installing the Sata hard drive and disc ...
