Superb mid-price motherboard and I'm very glad I opted to buy this. I became a bit of an E-pox fan a while back and went to a Sapphire pure advantage when they came out. The current state of play though suggests us first-person-shooter fanatics should opt for intel/nvidia systems so this was my choice.
The board itself has some innovative features I've not come across on other boards before. Quick connector blocks for the front panel & front USB connectors make them less fiddly to plug in. There's a built in bios recovery program which will attempt to restore the boards bios from the supplied driver CD. Nice touch although the instructions still warn you about turning off during bios updates so maybe this is not unbreakable. The bios also features hardware monitoring for cpu & board temps, PSU voltages and fan speeds and loads of options for overclocking.
The onboard lan is 1000 Mbps as you would expect. The two IDE sockets face forward at 90 degrees to the board which actually made them more fiddly in my Antec superlanboy case. Also the cpu socket protector felt as though I might break the board when I removed it to fit the cpu.
Still, once the Zalman cooler clip was fitted underneath and the Q6600 cpu and cooler were in place, I stuck some memory in, connected the PSU and decided to fire it up. I noticed there was no port 80 card on the board but it turned out I didn't need it as the system came to life first go.
The motherboard comes with a full instruction manual and quick set-up guide, driver cds, SLI connector cable, 2 sata cables, an IDE and floppy cable and a molex to sata-power adapter.
I haven't overclocked this system yet but I'm getting core temps of 51c max under load (using prime95 & coretemp downloaded from the net). This has been one of the easiest set-ups I've done in a while and is a great choice for the budget gamer.

Review of ASUS P5N-E SLI - motherboard - ATX - nForce 650i SLI
Advantages: cheap overclocking abilities gd looking build quality highly upgradable Disadvantages: asus wbsite very slow when wanting to dl updates
...my only bad point
asus website very slow when wanting to download updates
why pay £150 for a striker extreme when this is half that p.s my freind has the striker and i dont feel a diference at all apart from the striker boots up slower too much junk in its bios
the p5n is stripped to the core for performance all unneeded removed
it is easy to install and set up with good istructions to do so
and will even fit the latest intel dual and quad core ... ...more than a basic cheap asus board as asus spend more money on it and it looks alot better especialy if you have a side window on your case specs and connections

...crashing after installing this board you will need to update your BIOS. There are instructions on how to do this on the Asus website at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us. Also I have noticed that the southbridge chip seems to be running quite hot so it may be worth buying a heatsink for it. ...

Advantages: Future Proof, Plenty of Upgrade allowance Disadvantages: Large Components
every so often, say once every few days my computer crashes onto a large blue screen forcing me to reboot. I cannot be certain that the motherboard is causing this, and in my opinion its most likely the RAM thats causing the crash, however until I buy some extra parts to test what is causing this I can not say for certain what is causing it.
(Once i've tested I shall update the review to let you all know)
Finally the only other drawback i could possibly think of is the space available for new cards when upgrading. Due to the size of the heatsink in one area, it effectively makes the slot a smaller sapce.
Therefore it means I'm going to physically have to look at my upgrade before I buy to confirm it will fit. Howver I do not see this as a Major problem as with a little moving about of components it won't pose much of a problem ...
