Manufacturer's product description
Leveraging the Intel 865GV chipset to support P4 CPU on 800MHz FSB, Dual-channel DDR 400 memory, Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, and a full-range of advanced features, P5P800-MX really delivers a full-value, high-performance solution for today's most demanding tasks. This motherboard supports the latest Pentium 4 CPU from Intel in LGA775 package. With 800MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache, Hyper-Threading Technology and core-speeds up to 3.6GHz and beyond, Intel's LGA775 Pentium 4 is one of the fastest desktop processors to date. Dual-channel DDR technology doubles the bandwidth of your system memory and hence boost the system performance to out perform any memory existing solutions in the market. System bottlenecks are eliminated with balanced architecture and peak bandwidths up to 6.4GB/s. The P5P800-MX, with integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2, delivers powerful integrated 2D and 3D graphics performance for functionality and value. Serial ATA is the next generation ATA specification that provides scalable performance for today and tomorrow. With up to 150MB/s data transfer rate, Serial ATA is faster than current Parallel ATA, while providing 100% software compatibility. ASUS P5P800-MX provides convenient connectivity to external home theater audio systems via a S/PDIF-out (SONY-PHILIPS Digital Interface) connector pin. It allows to transfer digital audio without converting to analog format and keeps the best signal quality. The P5P800-MX uses an onboard Audio CODEC that lets you enjoy high-quality 6-channel audio without having to buy advanced sound cards. The CrashFree BIOS2 feature now includes the BIOS auto-recovery function in a support CD. Users can reboot their system through the support CD when a bootable disk is not available, and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process. ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay for an optional ROM. ASUS Q-Fan technology intelligently adjusts fan speeds according to system loading to ensure quiet, cool and efficient operation. A unique feature found only on Asus P5P800 motherboard that allows users to enjoy audio functions without the need to enter Windows.

Advantages: Very stable Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I had recently had to make the decision on whether to upgrade my motherboard to another SDRAM board or to change to DDR. I decided that DDR was the way to go, as it is so cheap at the moment (same price as PC133). So, now I had to decide on one of two boards, the Gigabyte 7DX, which a friend of mine owns, and the Asus A7M266. Both were very similar to each other except the price, the Asus is a little dearer. However I have read reviews of both, and the Asus seemed to come with better software and was also said to have better overclocking abilities. This swung it for me. The Asus it was to be. This board has been better than expected; it is a lot more stable than my old one. It can also be overclocked a hell of a lot more....

Advantages: nForce2 chipset, AGP X8, High performance. Disadvantages: nothing
...I like the Asusmotherboards.
Always high quality and high performance.
This is my second upgrade in 18 months and I have no complaints.
This motherboard will take AMD Athlon Xp processors to 3Ghz+. It uses DDR 400mhz memory (pc3200) and coupled with the excellent nForce2 chipset it offers speed, reliability and performance.
The A7N8X-VM uses an onboard C-Media 8738 6-channel audio so there is no need for a separate sound card.
It also features an integrated GeForce4 MX GPU, intergrated 10/100 Mbps LAN controller and 6 intergrated USB ports (4 rear +2).
Other features are 3 PCI slots, AGP x8, 2 Dimm sockets (max 2 Ghz DDR memory).
The A7N8X-VM comes complete with User's manual, UltraDMA cable, FDD cable and support CD.
There is an extra bonus with the ASUS LiveUpdate Utility. This allows you to update the bios on-screen without having...

Advantages: wifi, slot, dual channel memory, fsb400, great performance, 3 year warranty Disadvantages: no fan on northbridge
...This motherboard is great i have had it for 3 months now and i find it 3 times as good as the kt400 chipset, dual channel memory, 400fsb, 8x agp, sata brackets, very quick, user freindly software on cd, asus update to update your bios direct from there website and to top it off you gat a 3 year warranty, although you dont get a fan on the northbridge you probably dont need one, the colour is a bit bland but its still a great motherboard, for the price you pay you expect good performance and you get just that with this motherboard, i have an amd 2800 pluged in to this beauty and it runs like a dream. the asus wifi slot lets you buy an adaptor for the mainboard with this you can set up your house for wireless lan, it runs at 11mps and it fast enough for general use. 10/10...
