Manufacturer's product description
This motherboard supports the latest Pentium 4 CPU from Intel in LGA775 package. With 800/ 533MHz FSB, Hyper-Threading Technology and core-speeds up to 3.8GHz and beyond, Intel's LGA775 Pentium 4 is one of the fastest desktop processors to date (due to chipset limitation, the Intel Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology, C1E, and TM2 are not supported in this model). Enjoy the extraordinary CPU power from the latest dual-core CPU. The advanced processing technology contains two physical CPU cores with individually dedicated L2 cache to satisfy the rising demand for more powerful processing capability. With the VIA P4M800 PRO chipset, the ASUS P5VDC-MX supports DDR and DDR2 memory, and Intel's dual-core CPU for fast multi-tasking. Combined with the VT8251 Southbridge that provides four Serial ATA II ports with various RAID options and PCI Express interface, this motherboard is an excellent foundation for a powerful desktop. The P5VDC-MX delivers powerful integrated 2D and 3D graphics performance for functionality and value. This motherboard supports 2 DDR and 2 DDR2 DIMM slots to provide ultimate flexibility for system upgrade. The P5VDC-MX supports the next-generation hard drives based on the Serial ATA (SATA) 3Gb/s storage specification, delivering enhanced scalability and doubling the bus bandwidth for high-speed data retrieval and saves. The VIA VT8251 south bridge enables users to build Maximum 4 SATA I/II hard disk as a RAID0, 1, 0+1, and JBOD array. And the graphical user interface provides an easy way to configure and manage disk drives or disk arrays connected. PCI Express is the latest I/O interconnect technology that will replace the existing PCI interface. PCI Express x1 also outperforms PCI interface with its exceptional high bandwidth up to 500MB/s. The high speed PCI Express interface creates new usages on desktop PCs e.g., Gigabit LAN, 1394b, and high-speed RAID systems. Easy connectivity to your network or broadband connection with onboard LAN port lets you take gaming online without buying expensive additional LAN cards. ASUS Q-Fan technology intelligently adjusts fan speeds according to system loading to ensure quiet, cool and efficient operation. USB 2.0 is the latest connectivity standard for next generation components and peripherals. Backwards compatible with current USB 1.1 peripherals, USB 2.0 delivers transfer speeds up to 40 times faster at 480Mb/s, for easy connectivity and ultra-fast data transfers. The CrashFree BIOS2 feature now includes the BIOS auto-recovery function in a support CD. Users can reboot their system through the support CD when a bootable disk is not available, and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process. ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay for an optional ROM.

Advantages: Very stable Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I had recently had to make the decision on whether to upgrade my motherboard to another SDRAM board or to change to DDR. I decided that DDR was the way to go, as it is so cheap at the moment (same price as PC133). So, now I had to decide on one of two boards, the Gigabyte 7DX, which a friend of mine owns, and the Asus A7M266. Both were very similar to each other except the price, the Asus is a little dearer. However I have read reviews of both, and the Asus seemed to come with better software and was also said to have better overclocking abilities. This swung it for me. The Asus it was to be. This board has been better than expected; it is a lot more stable than my old one. It can also be overclocked a hell of a lot more....

Advantages: Reliable, features, value, support Disadvantages: none that I can find
...When looking for a motherboard for my brand new socket 939 processor I looked at the available options from my favourite supplier, ASUS.
I've used ASUS for a few computers now, from a cheapo A7V8X-X, to a top-of-the-line socket A board the A7V880 (socket A WITH dual channel) and I even have an ASUS cooler and an ASUS graphics card.
ASUS do no errors here neither, with the A8V Deluxe which has the stability ASUS are renowned for as well as every feature which is available. SATA, SATA Raid, IDE RAID, Firewire, Gigabit Ethernet, Dual Channel, AGP... what else could a computer builder want?
I bought this OEM so everything had to be downloaded from the net, which is easy and quick. The installation procedures are simple and there's no silly flash programs to 'help the baffled'. I love the ASUS probe software, which is small and very...

Advantages: nForce2 chipset, AGP X8, High performance. Disadvantages: nothing
...I like the Asusmotherboards.
Always high quality and high performance.
This is my second upgrade in 18 months and I have no complaints.
This motherboard will take AMD Athlon Xp processors to 3Ghz+. It uses DDR 400mhz memory (pc3200) and coupled with the excellent nForce2 chipset it offers speed, reliability and performance.
The A7N8X-VM uses an onboard C-Media 8738 6-channel audio so there is no need for a separate sound card.
It also features an integrated GeForce4MX GPU, intergrated 10/100 Mbps LAN controller and 6 intergrated USB ports (4 rear +2).
Other features are 3 PCI slots, AGP x8, 2 Dimm sockets (max 2 Ghz DDR memory).
The A7N8X-VM comes complete with User's manual, UltraDMA cable, FDD cable and support CD.
There is an extra bonus with the ASUS LiveUpdate Utility. This allows you to update the bios on-screen without having...
