Review of "AS Company Disney Frozen 3 Wheel Scooter"

Having three sons I don't have much opportunity to purchase feminine toys - although all three of them have been through a decidedly 'pink phase' at one point. Fortunately having a young niece gives me an excuse to buy something girly for her on special occasions and invest in some Frozen merchandise, from a franchise that has otherwise passed me by.
This is a Frozen branded three wheeled scooter, manufactured by 'AS Company' and sold under the Disney branding. It has two wheels fixed at the back and a swivelling front wheel. The Frozen theme is bold and clear and designed to appeal to fans of the iconic Disney film. It's not unsurprising that there is a lot of pink around the scooter's design but this particular scooter is not as gaudy and dominated by pink as some other products and it is calmed down slightly by a blue base plate. My youngest son is happy to borrow this from his cousin when they play together at their grandmother's house but peer pressure and societal norms would discourage him from choosing this particular design for his own scooter to be used out in public. As well as the Frozen branding emblazoned around the base of the scooter, there is also a plastic plaque provided which clips into place between the handle bars and marks this out as a Frozen scooter. This can be removed quite easily which is useful as it was at a position where my niece kept banging into it when she first started to use the scooter and it was getting in the way so it was taken off (and most probably subsequently lost somewhere.) The absence of the plaque doesn't affect the scooter's functioning or aesthetics at all.
AssemblyThe scooter comes securely and compactly boxed and in pieces ready to be assembled at home, along with printed assembly instructions with clear pictures to follow. I normally assess ease of assembly based on how many swear words I hear from my husband during assembly. On this occasion, he did manage to put it together singlehanded and didn't make too much of a fuss about it during or afterwards so it ranks quite highly in terms of home assembly items. In total, he spent less than half an hour putting this together, including the time spent attaching the stickers provided.
Durability and UseThis was given to my niece as a gift on her third birthday, when she was at the height of 'Frozen fever' and delighted to find her first scooter featured her favourite film characters. She has recently reached her fifth birthday and still owns this scooter although as she is tall for her age she has now passed the stage where this is a comfortable size for her to ride. With a maximum weight of 20kg the manufacturer's recommended age range is from around three to five years of age which I would say is fairly accurate. The height of the handle bars cannot be adjusted at all so a child is likely to outgrow this based on their height, as has happened with my niece. A slightly younger child may well also find this suitable as a first scooter as the wide baseplate and three wheels make this a very stable ride.
The baseplate of the scooter is made of strong plastic which seems durable enough to withstand regular use by the target age group. This has lasted two years of use and is still in good enough condition to pass on to another child or even sell. The baseplate hasn't been chipped or cracked at all and aside from some surface scratches and marks has lasted well with the all important Frozen images remaining intact. In use, the scooter moves easily along different surfaces and the three wheels are chunky enough to make the ride seem relatively smooth. This has been used both indoors and outdoors and the three wheels help to keep this stable when ridden over carpets, concrete or grass. The plastic wheels can be wiped down easily and maintenance required is minimal.
The handles have a rubberised grip which helps children to hold on securely. Neither my nor my youngest son have complained of any discomfort from the handles when playing with the scooter for prolonged periods. The only issue during use has been the aforementioned plaque and this was easy to resolve by removing it from the handlebars.
Price and Availability
Despite buying this a couple of years ago now, this Frozen branded tri-scooter is still readily available and relatively inexpensive. Both Argos and Tesco have this in stock online for just £19.99 which is a fair price for a scooter with a relatively short period of use.
This is a reasonably priced scooter with the still popular Frozen branding so likely to be appreciated by the target age group between the ages of two to four years. This has proven to be a robust and practical first scooter so I can only recommend it to others with children of a similar age looking for a reliable and robust first scooter.
