So in other words this little baby is hot, it comes in various guises, but prices should start at about £130 for a basic 64 Mb Radeon card, the VIVO version is around £150. but having had my VIVO card for some 2 months now, I can say that its performance is quite impressive, I am running it within Windows XP Professional environment and it runs Microsoft Flight Sim 2002 Professional beautifully.
If you are after a new Video Card then you would be daft not to consider this wonderful addition to the ATI family...
Advantages: good card for the money Disadvantages: Might need to adjust the monitor when changing screen resolution
Having built machines using the ATI Xpert 2000 pro (nice cheap all purpose card) I needed to upgrade my own system to something faster as my Viper II was objecting to a lot of the new games and support from Diamond had dried up. I decided to try the ATI Radeon 7200 which was reasonably priced and seemed to offer a bit more than the Xpert cards. In advanced display settings are a number of ATI tabs which allow you some degree of tweaking but keen to get on with, I left these alone. Testing with some of my older games, the card worked 100% and was noticably faster than my old card at doing the 3D graphics. It also ran the games my old card couldn`t run, with ease. Even with the resolution and graphics maxed up, gameplay was still smooth and even. The only ...

Advantages: excellent performance, good specs Disadvantages: probably be expensive on initial release
ATI have always had a reputation as the nearly boys of the video card market. They have always been able to produce reasonably cheap video cards, with excellent DVD playback and TV Out facilities, in fact the best video cards for DVD playback are ATI cards. However whilst releasing cards like the Rage Fury MAXX, theyve always been a couple of months too late in terms of releasing their cards in comparison with the competition. However I have it on ... ...their new 64Mb ATI Radeon DDR. I have seen a number of interesting benchmarks pitting this card against the Voodoo 5 5500, a couple of GeForce 2's and a GeForce DDR 256. Before summarising these results I ask you to remember that the ATI card is on its first release, non tweaked drivers, whereas the GeForce cards are using NVIDIAS release 5 I think it was, Detonator drivers. Firstly I saw benchmarks in Quake 3. Here the Radeon is right behind by ...

...new grafix card. His old ATI Rage Fury Maxx was starting to show its age, trundling along in its psuedo dual card state. The main deciding factor was the purchase of Colin McRae Rally II, the Maxx could only cope upto 1280 X 1024 in 32bit depth and had no support for billinier/trilinier filtering or enviroment mapping. Advantages: Lots and Lots Disadvantages: Nothing Serious
I would seriously recommend this card to anyone who is thinking of a new graphics card at the moment. Is is NOT the fastest (But not far off at all), or the cheapest...but the image quality is second to none. there are no serious issues that i know of. Also it has more Direct X 8.0 features than any other card taday so when more games/3d applications come out with Direct X 8 support it WILL out perform the other cards availible today - so there is ...

...better than ever before. Could ATI produce something that could blow them all away? ATI certaintly didn't think twice about cramming this card with as much state of the art technology they could lay their hands on. The card comes with 64Mb of on-board DDR (double data rate) RAM, ATI's own Radeon 8500 GPU and support for AGP 1X/2X/4X. It also runs in resolutions from 640X480 up to 2048X1536 which is more than enough for anyone. It was also the only ... ...that needs answering is, how do all this do in the real world? The answer you will get from the professionals varies. The hardware reviews nearly all say it is the card of choice and is a must buy, the games reviews on the other hand say it is let down in games performance by relativly slow frame rates compared with its Nvidia rivals. As someone who bought the card I can say I am impressed with performance but not quite so with looks. The card has ...

(Hardware Transfom and Lighting). It's only real competitors in this price range are the Matrox G45 eTV and the Creative nVidia Personal Cinema, both of which it undercuts pricewise. Performance wise there is very little out at the moment that it cannot play at 1024 x 768 with a smooth frame rate. I tested it using 3D Mark 2001 (available from MadOnion.com) a gamers benchmarking suite, which stresses the graphics card and uses a scene from Max Payne, one of the most graphics intensive games around at the moment.

Hi out there. Today I'm going to write my second opinion for the british ciao. I hope, you'll unterstand everything - my english is a little bad, because I'm from germany and out of school for over a year...
[something about ATI]
ATI is the Worldwide #2 selling video chips for the consumer market and beside nVidia the most powerful enterprise in this sector. The history of ATI's video chips reaches back to 1995 [well, I'm not really sure about that...]. The last video chip was the ATIRadeon 8500, which had a very nice performance while beeing cheap, too.
[the ATIRadeon 9700]
One of ATI's latest chips is the R300-family, named as Radeon 9500, 9500 Pro, 9700, 9700 Pro. Today I'm going to handle with the ATIRadeon 9700 with 128 MB DDR-RAM.
First of all, some technichal specifications:
275 Mhz Core
270 Mhz RAM ...
Advantages: all in one Disadvantages: slower on newer games
having bought this card for fifty pounds, I found it easy to install, and all the drivers were included in the package. Being an semi-enthusiastic gamer, I found that it ran most games smoothly at mid range resolutions, but it also fulfilled my needs including the ability to watch tv on the computer, and record programs on the computer.
I also found the image quality to be superb, beating other competing brands such as nvidia, with many image enhancing options, such as "smoothvision", although it will cause some newer games to run slowly.
One negative point, however, was that the drivers included in the package can cause some the graphics in some games to appear wrongly, but this can be fixed by downloading the somewhat large, updated drivers on the ati website (http://www.ati.com).
Other wise, I find this to be a solid card ...
