AVG Anti-virus

One of the first things I do now when getting a new computer is removing the usually bundled antivirus software. Typically, you get Nortons Antivrus on a trial basis.

I used to like paid for antivirus programmes with Norton being amongst my favourites. Part of the appeal was that my computer would be better protected because by paying a fee, they could would ensure that I had the latest virus databases updates and would remain fully protected. On recommendation, I switched to AVG and have not looked back. I've not experienced any difference as a home user. It's a great piece of software and seems to do the job much better than I thought it would.

Although it is free, it doesn't feel like a poorly constructed piece of software. It's user friendly and receives regular updates to ensure you are protected against the latest threats. You can do this manually or schedule it automatically. I seem to be able to download updates on a daily basis. Not bad for a free bit of software!

Another thing I like about AVG is that I rarely realise it is running even when doing a scan as it doesn't seem to drain the computer's resources like some alternatives do.

VERDICT
This antivirus programme should meet the needs of most, if not all, home users. Regular updates mean that you'll be protected against the latest threats. It's user friendly and has the features that a home user would require. This software comes highly recommended.
