Advantages: Free surfing all over Europe Disadvantages: Not really the big money spinner I though it would be
I got my FON router for christmas last year and I think its a rather good gadget.
Basically it plugs into your router via an ethernet cable and uses your internet connection as a hotspot for other internet users.
You sign up to the La Fonera website and from there you can either become an internet sharer or a money earner ( I use that last term loosely). If you opt to share your internet then anyone in the world who has a Fon router can log on to your internet with their user name and password and surf for free, when within range.
Or you can use your router as a means to make some cash, as it works as a hotspot for passing internet surfers. The idea is brilliant but unfortunately my Flat is next to a busy road so there is not very many places for people to stop and surf without looking a bit suspicious. If you live in a large block ...
Advantages: Very cheap router, get free wifi worldwide or make money Disadvantages: Might get your internet disconnected
Incase you don't already know, here's a short description of what Fon is. Fon is a tiny wireless router, which shares your internet connection with other Fon users. By leaving your Fon connected and allowing others to access it, you can access any other Fon router worldwide for free WiFi access.

The only other major downside is that if you allow others to connect, and they commit illegal activity via your ...
Advantages: Packed with features, excellent value for money Disadvantages: Coverage A Bit Poor
I bought this router for £35 from Ebuyer after sending back a Buffalo one which didn't work very well. What Ebuyer don't say on the website is that this Acer router comes with a free PCMCIA laptop wireless card in the box so for £35 this is excellent value for money.
The router is small, light and packed with features. You can add mac filtering for both wireless and wired clients, wep and features an activity log. There is an option to hide the ssid although this does not seem to work. Also it states on the box the coverage is up to 300m however sitting in the room below the router the coverage is quite poor, I receive a "low" signal strength and a connection of 2mbps on my computer which is pretty bad since the maximum should be 108mbps. I can pick up my 2 neighbours wireless lan a lot stronger than my own.
I haven't received ...
