Psychologist Alex Dlaware, homicide detective Milo, his partner and also a homicide detective Petra Connor, And Robin Castagna a guitar repairman, and Alexs ex-girlfriend, all team up to track down the clues and pin down their man. Kellerman has a way of bringing that characters back in every book that make me want to know what happened when one book ended and another one begins. And this one has some big changes. The plot is very easy to follow although the storyline jumps from person to person often. Petra catches a murder case in which a failing blues star Baby Boy Lee is murdered in an alley after a performance in a seedy night club. With one drunk witness and no physicall evidence she follows dead leads all the way to Robin who repaired his guitars. This leads her to Milo who is also working on a murder case. While he searches for the man who killed an up and coming young artist Alex ponders the relationship of the crimes and how they both ended up at his door. They follow the trail through halfway houses, mansions, and then finally to Alex's ex Robin, who had a business relationship with both of the victims. Does she hold the one piece of the puzzle that can point them to the killer? While they chase him trough Las Angeles more and more artist are turning up dead. Can they stop him before he unveils his next masterpiece?

Six years after 'Billy Straight' and a year after her reappearance in the Alex Delaware thriller 'A ColdHeart' JonathanKellerman has released his second Petra Connor novel. I am a big fan of Kellerman's psychological thrillers which feature his main recurring characters psychologist Alex Delaware and cop Milo Sturgis I have also enjoyed his departures from these two characters, 'The Butcher's Theatre', 'Conspiracy Club' and the aforementioned 'Billy Straight' and as Delaware and Sturgis hurtle towards senior citizen status it may be the case that Delaware needs new characters. Petra Connor may well be the character that Kellerman is looking to, to fill this role.
