Advantages: quite decently written, a time-passer Disadvantages: dull and predictable
...I was actually looking for a Greek dictionary… but I ended up with this as well. It took an afternoon to read. I’m not looking for compensation for that afternoon; I could just as well have been doing something a lot more dull. But… it was quite dull too.
Like Water For Chocolate has appeared previously under the title Like Water For Hot Chocolate. Whether the change of title had to do with the fact that a film adaptation was made, I have no idea; whatever the reason, this is a much better title. This edition has been translated by Carol Christensen and Thomas Christensen. Now, I can’t possibly comment on whether this has affected the music or passion of the writing but it’s fair to say I had no quibble with the actual writing. Merely the whole tone, content and general idea. Oh dear.

...I had to request to get this book put on Ciao as I was amazed to find that there were no Victoria Routledge books mentioned whatsoever! I was surprised about this as she was one of my favourite authors for a while. She has written five books so far "Friends Like These", "Kiss Him Goodbye", "And for starters", "Swansong" and "Constance & Faith" - I have read the first four of these books and I have to say I preferred the first two, this one in particular.
"Friends Like These" examines the relationship of a group of university friends, who have left university and yet continued their friendship. However, there have been a number of incidents which happened at their time in university which slightly divided the group, and so things can be a bit awkward at times between them.

Advantages: Great read Disadvantages: hard to put down
..., whom they both adored. However, When Ross got angry he would sometimes hit his wife maybe that was why Faith no longer loved her husband as she did at the start.
Over the tables at a medical dinner Faith is aware of a man looking in her direction, and she too has thrown the odd glance in his direction. Oliver Cabot is an alternative health practioner. He owns and runs a large practise in London where they do every type of complimentary medicine you can imagine – from hypnosis to acupuncture.
At home Faith can think of little else apart from the man she had seen at the meal, and Oliver was the same thinking constantly about Faith Ransome.
A chance meeting in London confirms them liking of each other. And concerned about Faith nausea he takes her under his wing in his practise. She dare not let Ross know – he didn’t believe in all...
