Laugh out Loud Review ofA Good Man in Africa - William Boydby
KingHerrod
Advantages: A fun read Disadvantages: none
...this time about the mess a small time diplomat gets himself into in a small ex empire African country. The "good man" Morgan Leafy, gets involved in political corruption, disposal of dead bodies and love triangles. The book is excellently written and flows well, with the plot being cleverly constructed.
You can imagine Mogan, we all know them, the blustering Englishman and his boss the bossy arrogant swine Fanshawe, who accepts no blame for anything.

Advantages: epic and engaging Disadvantages: some loose ends
...'s longer than average it will provide more hours of reading for the price (unless you get hooked and read it really quickly like I did). I can well imagine reading it again, although not right away.
I've read most of WilliamBoyd's novels, and this is one of my favourites. Some of his other books include An Ice-cream War, A GoodMan in Africa (which has been made into a film featuring Sean Connery), Stars and Bars, Brazzaville Beach, The Blue Afternoon, and Armadillo (which has had a telvision adaptation made of it). I'd recommend all of them, although some are better than others; apart from The New Confessions I'd particularly recommend Brazzaville Beach (to do with research on gorilla behaviour) and The Blue Afternoon (a time-crossing love story), although other people might disagree.
Thanks,
Simon
