This is another award winning book from Boyd, this time about the mess a small time diplomat gets himself into in a small ex empire African country. The "good man" Morgan Leafy, gets involved in political corruption, disposal of dead bodies and love triangles. The book is excellently written and flows well, with the plot being cleverly constructed.
You can imagine Mogan, we all know them, the blustering Englishman and his boss the bossy arrogant swine Fanshawe, who accepts no blame for anything.
The plot is farsical and again reminds me of Waugh, with his attack on the traditional English upper class bungles.
A good read, well writtn, poignant, very funny and perhaps very observant of that English Man.
