...Marks and Spencer retailing have had their share of hard times recently, but I can only praise their financial arm. Their customer service was excellent, delivering all they said they would and on the dates they said they would.
I chose to invest in the UK 100 Companies (Acc) which I see as a long term investment (5 years +) and at the time there was no initial charge. I had already invested to my limit in this years ISA and was looking for a medium risk investment with low charges.
There was no hard selling, multiple mail shots, etc. just quality service from a quality provider....

Advantages: Good rates of interest & hard to squander your savings. Disadvantages: A challenge to small banks & building societies?
...This opinion is a cloaked attempt to stir-up a debate about the Post Office. The Post Office is a publically-owned service which, apart from delivering the mail around the UK has 'ltd' status which allows it to compete with high-street shops and financial companies.
I believe that the Post Office is an unbeatable mail-delivery service and that its uses as a base for distributing benefits and as an investment-bank (throught the National Savnigs Bank) are a distinct and necessary advantage in British society.
But is there any general feeling that, being govenment-funded, the Post Office could pose a threat to banks and what building societies still remain?...
