witch Tiffany Aching and the Wee Free Men, is so ridiculously well written and consistently funny it makes you wonder how he can keep writing such superlative no...
Advantages: Wonderful word-play, delightfully silly Disadvantages: (Apparently some people don't like Pratchett?)
Only Pratchett could start a story with an extract from a book on "Fairies and how to avoid them". For only in a world invented by Pratchett might there be fairies you would wish to avoid. The "fairies" in question ~ and believe me, you would put the word in inverted commas too, and most certainly you'd be careful about using it within their hearing ~ the folk who are "technic'ly" of fairyland with whom we are concerned here, are the Nac Mac Feegle
... ..."Pictsies" for instance is not a simple manipulation of pixies. It is a direct reference to the Picts….the ancient peoples of these isles. Think "Braveheart" as played to Hollywood, all tartan and woad and mindless loyalty… shrink the physical size to leprechaun, increase the alcohol content to hogmanay to the power of 365, throw in the joy of the wild west saloon brawl and you begin to get close to the Nac Mac Feegle. Ach, but in true Scots fashion…they're ...

Advantages: Another Discworld book, entertaining for both children and adults Disadvantages: Shorter than normal since it's (meant to be) a kids book
A Hat Full of Sky is fantasy author Terry Pratchett’s third foray into Discworld-based children’s literature. It sees the further development of Tiffany Aching, first encountered in Wee Free Men, as she once again fights an evil abroad in the land. Although it’s primarily aimed at young adult readers, it’s a tale that could be equally enjoyed by adults. And although it is technically a sequel to Wee Free Men, it stands alone ... ...fact that she, briefly, was a bigjob kelda to the Nac Mac Feegle clan).
Trying to help Tiffany out (even if she doesn’t want them to) are the Nac Mac Feegle, led by Rob Anybody and his Kelda. Rumoured to have been thrown out of fairyland by the Queen (possibly for being pished), at first glance you wouldn’t credit the wee free men from being the walking natural disaster they frequently are.

Advantages: Return of the Feegles! Disadvantages: None!
A Hat Full Of Sky.
“A Hat Full of Sky” is a “Discworld” novel but one that falls into the category of children’s books. Rather than concentrating on the Discworld that Terry Pratchett fans would be used to, this book can be read without too much of a working knowledge of the other books or characters. Though I would say you will enjoy it more if you read “The Wee Free Men” first.
This novel is a continuation of the life story of Tiffany Aching ... ...more than her wits and a frying pan…..oh, and her little brother as bate. (All that little brothers are good for when your 9!) She gets to be a “Kelda” (queen of the Wee Free Men) till they find a replacement and has a talking frog for advice. At the end of the book we see a number of powerful Witches- including Granny Weatherwax rushing in to save the day to discover that Tiffany has done it all (more or less) on her own.
Moving on to “A Hat Full ...

The Worst Witch? Review ofA Hat Full of Sky - Terry Pratchettby
Shortsharpshock
Advantages: Intriguing characters, imaginative, wide appeal. Disadvantages: Makes me wish I had read the prequel.
...she is destined to be a Witch. She can feel it in her bones through her toes into the land, which she calls home. Why can others not see it? She defeated the queen of the fairies single handedly didn't she! Mind you it does not help when your only witnesses are the Nac Mac Feegle, a clan of fairies who were thrown out of fairyland for drinking, fighting and swearing. Something knows she is powerful though. It hunts her down as it has so many before ... ...the magical land of Discworld, a land of witches and wizards who never agree, "A Hat Full of Sky" is billed as a children's novel. However, the concepts and ideas throughout are challenging to readers of all ages and if you suspend your pre-conceived ideas about what should constitute an "adult" book then you will enjoy the read. Themes such as marriage and monarchy are approached in a sardonic yet poignant fashion and indeed there is much merit ...
