Liverpool when his ship needs repairs and meets lovely young Stella Bennett on the quayside, searching for her lost kitten. The young couple fall in love and want to marry but the Bennetts have other plans for Stella and when she gives birth to a baby, Ginny, Michael is dismayed by the child's ginger hair and convinced she is not his. He returns to Ireland, leaving the slovenly Granny Bennett to rear Ginny. The child accepts her lot, expecting little from life but knows that, in order to escape from the slums, she must attend school. Granny Bennett prefers Ginny to skivvy for her, but when a sympathetic teacher, Mabel Derbyshire, comes into her life, Ginny decides she must better herself and the obvious way to do so is to find her father.

Advantages: Gives an historical perspective, engaging, charming and well written Disadvantages: Not lively, a bit slow in places, predictable
***INTRODUCTION***
I received this book as a Christmas present; my husband knows that I?m an avid reader and usually buys me two or three books. He knows that he?s safe with James Patterson, John Grisham, Ian Rankin (sometimes), but ask him to use his knowledge of what I read to make a decision on something I might like, and he?s definitely starting to struggle. This year?s collection contained The Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson, The Juror by John Grisham and The Long and Lonely Road by KatieFlynn. Unfortunately, I think my face gave me away as I read the synopsis on the cover and he thought I wasn?t going to like it; I thought so too! So the question is, did I?
I?m ashamed to reveal at this point that I was put off by the cover! It depicted a scene in the background of evacuee war children boarding a train, and the main ...
Advantages: Brilliantly written. Disadvantages: Some bad language, but all in context.
saves his fathers life and this marks a change in their relationship, Charlie becomes the strong, capable one and his father, Charles becomes weaker and somehow resentful rather than grateful.
There are more, so many more.
SO WILL YOU ENJOY IT?
This novel can be read on many levels, if the symbolism goes over your head thats fine because its a good story, you really want to know how things will work out for each character. If you enjoy a bloody well written multi-layered novel then there is plenty here to keep you happy, this is no AGA saga. The standard of writing is high and I will definitely be looking for other books by this author.

Advantages: Consistency of tracks, smooth melodies. Disadvantages: Might be a bit cliché for some. Not the strongest vocals.
I couldn?t review the ?Best Of? compilation without reviewing my favourite Sade album: ?Promise? is the 2nd album by Sade and was released in 1985. Essentially it is a continuation of where the 1st album ?Diamond Life? left off and I would characterise the sound as smooth easy-listening with jazzy tones. In my opinion Sade have improved on their debut effort by consistently delivering more refined melodies and lyrics. Tracks on this album make frequent use of sax, guitar, bongos and piano to create a harmonious whole.
Here is a rundown of each song:
1. "Is It a Crime"? 6:20
The opening track, a straightforward jazz tune on unrequited love, is an album highlight for me due to its seductive sax solo and the soothing effect of Sade?s sultry voice. She may not have the strongest vocals and the instruments threaten to overwhelm her ...
