1951 - Her first son Alec is born.
1953 - Has her first story published, "Freedom of the Race" in Science Fiction Plus.
1956 - Her second son Todd is born.
1958 - The family move to Delaware.
1965 - After moving around several places, Anne decides to begin writing full time.
1967 - Her first novel is published.
1968 - Awarded Best Novella Hugo for "Weyr Search" and in doing so, becomes the first woman to receive the award.
1970 - Anne files for divorce and subsequently moves to Ireland.
1981 - Anne becomes a grandmother for the first time.
1990 - Work on the home she has designed in Ireland begins.
1999 - Receives a couple of lifetime achievement awards (Margaret A. Edwards and Julie Award).
2004 - Another lifetime achievement award - this time from the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future.

~ About the Author ~
Anne McCaffrey is now aged 81, and is a world renowned Science Fiction Writer, best known for a series of books based around the fictional world of Pern, also known as the Dragonrider series.
The book I am reviewing though comes from a series of 4 books (a little more about them later).
Although Anne McCaffrey is American, she emigrated to Ireland in the early 1970's and now lives in a house she designed herself in County Wicklow, Ireland, and calls her home Dragonhold-Underhill.
She enjoys horses and riding.
Anne McCaffrey has also co-written a number of stories with various other writers, including her own son.

Advantages: A lovely story, well told, with engaging characters Disadvantages: A bit short perhapse - ends too soon!
...Originally published in 1978, and a fantasy bestseller ever since, the only thing that gives away it’s age is the cover art of the edition I have had for years! McCaffrey’s slow growing Dragons of Pern series, begun 30 years ago, has now expanded to 15 titles. This is one of the early classic titles, and forms the first part of a pair with DragonSinger its sequel.
If you are not familiar with the series, perhaps I should explain that the books are set way into the future, Pern is a planet colonised by settlers determined to reduce to a minimum their dependence on technology. Some years after first settling the colonists discovered a deadly problem with their Eden – periodic attacks from the sky in the form of flesh eating ‘Thread’ falling from a rouge planet as it’s orbit brings it close to Pern...
