...A MidsummerNight’s Dream
“…the most insipid and ridiculous play that I ever saw in my life.”
Samuel Pepys (1662)
Is this comment about ‘A MidsummerNights Dream’ an accurate judgement on the reaction of the audience to the play, or do you believe its themes and characters are relevant and important?
The play ‘A MidsummerNights Dream’ involves four lovers running into the woods to escape an overpowering father and the duke of Athens. It also features a group of men named “the mechanicals” who are constructing a play named “Pyramus and Thisbe” which will be performed at the wedding of the duke of Athens’s, Theseus and his bride, Hippolyta, once Queen of the Amazons. Advantages: Very funny, easy to read Disadvantages: Hmmm....
...Where to start? Good question, I’ve never reviewed a book before and let me tell you, it’s a daunting prospect. After having read many book op’s I decided to give it a go myself and now that CIAO have finally added AndrewHarman to their list of authors I have somewhere to start. Most of them read like professional reviews (gulp!) and I just thought I’d better warn you: I know nothing about ‘literature’, I’ve not read loads, I don’t know all the proper terminology. I just like what I like, so this op is my personal opinion of the book, not an in-depth analysis...
