KARL MARX'S COMMUNIST MANIFESTO
Review of The Communist Manifesto (Oxford World's Classics) - Karl Marx by  Davidhutt

Advantages: Fantastic Philosophy to an important word movement,
Disadvantages: Quite short, doesn't go into the detail of Das Kapital

...*****History***** The Communist Manifesto was initially published in 1848 (in London), although the text was originally in German. The first English translation was created in 1850. It was commissioned by the Communist League and to lay out the League's intentions and program. The Manifesto had a great number of editions from 1872 to 1890, with important prefaces written by Marx and Engels for the 1872 German edition, 1882 Russian edition, 1883 German edition, 1888 English edition. *****The Authors***** Although the names of Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx appear as joint-authors, Engels has stated that it was "essentially Marx's work" Most recent researchers believe that "the actual drafting of The Communist Manifesto was done exclusively by Marx." *****Synopsis***** The Manifesto is separated into five sections... Why buy The Eyre Affair
Review of The Eyre Affair - Jasper Fforde by  jolenet123

Advantages: Truly, truly original and wonderful to read :-)
Disadvantages: Only if you don't like your reading funny and slightly odd!

...The Eyre Affair is such a wonderful book that I was almost breathless when I first read it and I still am whenever I re-read it! Fforde introduces an alternate view of our world - but writes it so well that you are immediately comfortable in this new way of thinking! From the first page I promise you will be hooked! The Eyre Affair had everything you could want in a good read; characters with good depth; original ideas; mystery; comedy; tragedy; page turnability! I absolutely loved it (you may have guess) and if you like Terry Pratchett then think like Discworld only modern and with different ideas. The Eyre Affair is not just another fantasy book with similar concepts, it is new and funny and clever - wonderful!... Read review

A Beautiful Affair Indeed
Review of A Country Affair - Rebecca Shaw by  KarenUK

Advantages: Great story, excellent characterisation, easy to read and get into
Disadvantages: Have to wait a while for the next book

...Being a fan of the author, Rebecca Shaw, I was pleased to hear she had a new novel out this year. I borrowed it from the library and read it in a couple of days. I am now looking forward to her further books in this new series. But first a bit of background… Rebecca Shaw has written eight novels set in a village called Turnham Malpas. I have read the first five of these so far (and written opinions on them!) and I’m planning to read the others too. But Shaw has now finished her Turnham Malpas series and has changed tack – from a quiet village based around the church and rectory to a more modern setting, centred round the Barleybridge Veterinary Practice. The main character in the first book of this new series – A Country Affair – is Kate Howard, a nineteen year old who begins a new job... Read review
