PenelopeLively was born in Egypt. Educated in England from the age of 12, she attended Oxford Uni.
She has written a range of fiction and non-fiction books and also branched out in to the field of children’s books.
PenelopeLively has won a number of Literary awards:

~ Whitbread Award

My daughter is now nearly four (3 and 10 months) and she loved it. I was watching her face as she was listening to me reading the story yesterday and, despite knowing quite well what was happening and what was coming next, she was noticeably excited by the tale, her face lighting up in the crucial moments. We took it back to the library now but it's a book I would definitely contemplate buying if I was in a habit of buying books or if I had a spare Amazon voucher as it has a fantastic re-read potential.

...One of PenelopeLively's best books. Ann Linton is happily married with children. When it becomes clear her father is seriously ill and likely to die soon she has to regularly make the journey to
the nursing home at Lichfield to see him. She lives in
his house and begins the task of sorting through all
her father's papers and belongings. In the process she
discovers some things about her father and their
family which she never knew before. Meanwhile, at the
nursing home, Ann meets David Fielding, a man who
befriended her father on fishing trips. As time
progresses so does their secret relationship. However
they are both married and have children which in the
end matters more than this. Through her brief
relationship with David and her changing relationship
with her father Ann comes to a new understanding about
herself...
