Be a Dancing Queen......

Advantages Dancing fun
Disadvantages More songs?
Ever since playing Just Dance when it first came out, our house hold as always tended to have the latest dancing titles. A bit of drunken fun, a different way to have fun or a way to keep fit Dancing games can have many different qualities and this one, Abba: You Can Dance, aptly named after one of their most famous song lyrics is a decent, if a bit conventional, dance title.
This game was released in the run up to Xmas 2011 and we bought it a few weeks before the event as something to play at family get togethers….although after “lampgate” last year with just dance all breakable items were well out of site.
What you get for your money here, and we are talking around £15-£20, is 25 classic Abba songs for you to dance too. I am sure given the bands massive back catalogue you could have included much more but all the notables are here and I assume everyones favourite Abba track will be on the disc. The music is real, authentic and the proper versions, none of this cover version or “as made famous by” nonsense you see in other games. Just real Abba singing Abba’s biggest hits. Gives a certain authenticity to the game I tend to think.
The game is very simple, you dance copying the moves from the screen and score points. Some songs and settings are harder than others but there is at least a setting to fit all. Its very pick up and play, needs very little instruction…just grab the remote and dance. The controls are as responsive if not more so than Just Dance and you do feel in control and is your movements are being scored fairly. There are highs score tables etc to challenge friends but the real fun in this titles comes in the multiplayer modes which are a laugh a minute. So much fun to be hand battling opponents and with up to four playing it gets hectic. Marvellous! Dancing games are some of the best multiplayer titles out there.
There is one mode where you play in a story based musical which is fun if a little pointless, but the game also boasts….singing!
Never going to be a patch on singstar but in this title if you have the mic you can sign along to the song and get scored on vocals. It is no where near as tight as the dancing and perfect singing gets you nowhere but it’s a little bit of fun that people will enjoy if you don’t take too serious!
Bonuses include live footage of Abba on stage, trivia and various photos to add to the feel but it’s the fun element that will keep you coming back and back for more.
All in all then I would say that Abba You Can Dance does not do anything fresh but it does make for a fun game and is certainly on par with some of the more known and established titles in the dancing franchise! Worth a punt!
