Abbey National

Firstly I should point out that Abbey have now changed their name to Santander, and they have now merged with Alliance and Leicester. I joined Santander in 2008 just as I was about to join uni, I already had an account with HSBC but thought that being a student it would be useful to have two accounts to help juggle money. When I received a quote for my car insurance in December I decided to shop around before accepting. I had received through the post a letter from Abbey National about the motor insurance they did,so I went onto their website for an instant quote to find they were quite substantially cheaper than my present insurance company. I phoned them up just to double check with them as I couldn't beleive the difference to what I was paying,and they told me it was exactly right. Abbey are a fantastic bank that offer a lot of products under one roof. Abbey offer a wide range of bank accounts, they have a current account which i have with them where i have a visa debit card, a cheque book and an overdraft on the account of £1000 although i have never used the overdraft and havent used a cheque for ages, you can pay in most stores through chip and pin with your debit card and use it all over the world at cash machines so this for me is a great account. I would strongly advise against any involvement with Abbey National's recently launched car insurance division. Having taken out policies for two cars, both fully comprehensive, I was shocked at how incompetent, the operation is. Abbey National car insurance is a self-contained unit run from offices in Liverpool. Essentially it launched too quick, before its adminstration was anywhere near able to cope with the demand. I have had my Abbey National car Insurance policy since June 2000. Having worked in Car Insurance for 15 years prior to having children I do know a fair bit about this subject and have had no problems whatsoever. The policy documents were issue quickly and accurately, the premium is the cheapest I could find anywhere and the cover is extensive. I had to make a claim recently when someone (who chose to remain anonymous)hit my car whilst it was parked in a public car park.
