Birds Birds birds
Advantages Variety of birdlife seen
Disadvantages felt a bit like a zoo
I visited the nature reserve as part of a trip organized by the gambia experience. It was a half day trip and included couch travel to the reserve, a guide to show you around the reserve and also a birdchart and checklist were given out at the start.
Our guide first took us into a hide overlooking a lake but due to the large amount on the trip it meant we had to wait for seats to become available in order to get a look at the wildlife. It was well worth the wait though as there were some amazing sights especially of the crocodile who surfaced!
We set off again along the path through the reserve, only trouble was again that there was only one guide who was up front and naturally wasnt able to answer the questions or stop for anyone along the way to have a look at the wildlife (the reason we were all there!). It did feel a bit like being hered around a zoo more than a nature reserve. There were a few caged animals inside the reserve which I found a bit strange too.
On the whole it was worth the visit but I would recommend anyone to organise their own trip with any of the wonderful tourist guides (the ones in the brown uniforms) as they can take time with you and you can stop as many times as you like without losing the group!
I think I remember the trip costing approx £15 per person.
