One day in March 2004, I bought myself a Shredder, I was getting fed up with tearing up all my personal mail by hand, not to mention junk mail with my name and address displayed. There was a special offer in Argos at the time and I paid £32.99. I was pleased with the overall look of the shredder, it was sturdy and not too cheap looking, in a light grey with dark grey trim, (unlike some of the hand operated brittle looking plastic ones you see about!)
I plugged it in at the mains and the rectangular shape meant it would fit comfortably out of sight next to, or under my desk. On the top of the unit is a slide control to change from off - on - forward - reverse, it automatically stops when the paper has finished shredding.
The waste bin is made for 18litres of cross-cut paper. This provides higher security than a standard straight-cut model. There is also a bypass feature at the front for rubbish that does not need to be shredded. The bin is easy to empty, with the top lifting off, leaving the bin to be tipped into a suitable disposable container (I personally line the bin with a carrier bag! as the clippings can get a bit static in the plastic bin). A month after buying the shredder I had a problem, my only one! But a big one! My son had come home from school at the end of term, with lots of schoolwork to get rid of (of course I kept all the best! What sort of mother do you take me for!), I should have checked through it more fully though, because on one piece of paper was stuck a square of cotton material… This totally jammed up the shredder, and after removing the entire offending item, my shredder still didn't work, so I took it back to Argos rather shamefaced, and to my amazement they replaced it with a brand new one!
Needless to say I am very careful to not overload my shredder now, it states it will take 4-5 pieces of paper at one time, but I think that you have to think about the thickness of the paper, as some can be more like card! It also says in the user guide that it is ok for staples, so that is a bonus! Argos gave me a 16day money back /12 month guarantee. Rexel gave me a 24months warranty. So I have no problem there, I would just advise users to be careful to not overload!
With the recent publicity about identity fraud, I would highly recommend every household to think about investing in some type of shredder, as a way of helping to keep your personal details private! My shredder is still going well! (fingers crossed!)

This looks like a good model to replace my older straight cut Fellowes machine. A very good review here!
