The Balance Sheet Years
Review of Accountancy by Cat199

Advantages: Highly regarded qualification, transferable skills, well paid.
Disadvantages: Years of studying, accountant jokes

...the latest from the different accountancy body's websites. Pre-requisites It is theoretically possible to pursue an accountancy qualification after A levels but I would not recommend it because it would involve several additional years of studying at the same time as working full time, there will be few employers providing the level of support required to obtain this qualification quickly for A level candidates and if gaining your qualification ...
...outside London. Most accountancy trainees are graduates, particularly those training with one of the large practices. In the UK, the degree subject does not matter at all, unlike in other countries where a business or accountancy related degree is required. If you are sure at age 18 that you want to be an accountant then an accountancy degree will provide a few exemptions from the professional exams, it might make the process slightly quicker and ... A career in Accounting & Finance
Review of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) by  Gertie25

Advantages: Sky-high career and earnings potential
Disadvantages: Hard work and requires effort.

...The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants is a professional Accountancy body awarding it's qualified members the title of 'Chartered Management Accountant.' I have worked in accounting and finance for 11 years, and after qualifying with the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians), which boosted my career to working as an Assistant Accountant within industry, I was looking for my next challenge. There are a few professional accounting institutes within the UK, and each largely tends to focus their qualification to a different area of the profession. So upon completion of the AAT, where did I turn? There were so many options available to me. I chose to complete AAT as I didn't have a university degree or relevant professional qualification, and straight from school I needed to start out at the bottom of my career... Read review

Where to get the funding for my course
Review of my-ila.com (Individual Learning Account) by  mlynch8217

Advantages: Anyone in work can apply, It covers most courses, You can use it for books and equipment etc too many actually to name
Disadvantages: None i can think of

...Whilst searching round for funds so I could enrol on a computer course I was told about the Individual Learning Account. Unfortunately the course I was wanting to do cost far more than the ILA. Individual Learning Accounts enable you to enrol on courses by just paying £25. The actual course I was interested in cost £175. PLEASE NOTE - People can only benefit from an Individual Learning Account discount if their account is dated on or before the course start date. So what is an Individual Learning Account? The Individual Learning Account is a way of helping people in work pay for learning for their personal development. It is : an account wich the government helps with, enabling people to take up discounts and benefits; It is a source of information about learning opportunities linked to other government initiatives... Accounting and Finance
Review of Accounting & Finance by  Faitho

Advantages: Helpful staff, easy pase, split exams, lots of literature available
Disadvantages: Few choices, fairly heavy work load,

...My final decision to come to UEA was because of the Accounting course they offered and the staff they have in the management school. I'd never studied accounting before I came to UEA, but the lecturers made everything easy to understand and were more than willing to help out whenever things got a little complicated. The first year acts as a foundation year, which is great when you move into the second year because its pretty much the same, just a little harder. You also get to take exams after Christmas so you don't have to revise a years load of work for the summer exams, which works well for me I think that the course has been structured well and that the limitations of some students has been taken into account. The lecturers strive to make the subject as interesting as possible and do there best to keep you awake when you... Read review
