NatWest - a Student-friendly bank

Advantages: Easy to set up, great overdraft facility, great student credit card
Disadvantages: Solo/Maestro - you have to make sure you have the right debit card

... What do NatWest have to offer? Why did I choose NatWest for my student account? The answer is very simple: I've had a bank account with NatWest for many years, and although I did research other banks before deciding who to open a student account with, I ultimately chose to stick with NatWest. For students starting university this year who open an account before 10 October 2009, this is what's on offer: * A Maestro debit card - accepted pretty ...
...text alerts...and you can use NatWest ATMs to top up your mobile. They also have a clever emergency cash system, whereby if your card is lost or stolen, you can ring them and they'll give you a unique PIN which will allow you to withdraw up to £300 from your account until your replacement comes through. Setting up the account To be eligible for this account, you just need to be a student. It's easiest to set up this account at the beginning ...

You've got to be in it to win it

Advantages: could win up to £1million, can cash in at any time, secure
Disadvantages: high minimum investment, no interest earned

...became interested in investing in National Savings products after learning about them in my financial studies, and with the recent drop in interest rates that have seen savings accounts become less worthwhile, a bit of diversification seemed reasonable. What is National Savings? National Savings is a government backed savings scheme. It's big selling point is that your money is guaranteed to be completely safe. This compares to only the first ...
...invest with national savings it is completely secure. This makes no odds to me, as I'm not lucky enough to have that sort of money anyway, but it's useful to know! They offer various savings products - fixed term certificates through to children's bonus bonds. What are Premium Bonds? Most people will have heard of premium bonds and talk of people 'winning on the premium bonds' This seems bizarre for a savings product! Basically, you invest ...

I actually did get " A LITTLE XTRA"

Advantages: I was paid to move my account over to them.
Disadvantages: They are making harsh changes to some of their accounts £1 a day charge for being overdrawn, bewar

...I popped into my local Halifax branch to make a counter transaction. The lady behind the counter asked me if I was aware of the changes that are going to be happening to my account. I wasn't aware that any changes were being made starting from 1st December despite the claim that a letter had apparently been sent to me. It unravels that the current account I have will be changing and that Halifax will be charging me £1 per day for every day the account ...
...from those accounts over to Halifax I would receive £25.00, I was being slightly cheeky and tongue in cheek when I asked if I get £25 for each account I transfer. I was admittedly very shocked when she said yes. To get my reward of £50.00 all I needed to do was to provide my other bank details, sign forms to authorise them to deal with natwest for the takeover of my standing orders/direct debits, and pay a £100 pounds into my new account to open ...

Advantages: the acout is easy to your
Disadvantages: is is not easey to youse

...had a problem with my HSBC account, the staff are without fail friendly and helpful - especially when you are a skint student worried about going over your overdraft! I have found their student banking service excellent. The most useful part I have found is the Switch card - also, they do automatically approve you for a Mastercard which is useful because it means you get a credit rating. HSBC gives first year students a £750 overdraft, which increases ...
...The main attraction of the HSBC student service was the free 4 year (yes, FOUR YEARS!!!) railcard. This is worth £80 to start with. This can be a lot of money - I reckon it's saved me AT LEAST £70 this year! Other banks might give you cash - usually about £50, but it just disappears into your student loan or other money, and you just forget about it. The rail card is definitely the best incentive I've ever seen. Another huge plus was the forms I ...
