Beat the credit crunch
Review of Norwich & Peterborough Building Society by honey000

Advantages: Good rate - term mortgage, good customer service
Disadvantages: Not as cheap as old one!

...starting to panic. Step in Norwich and Peterborough building society. We have been offered a reasonable rate (albeit costs more than our old mortgage but given the fact that interest charged on mortgages no longer follows the bank of England rate this is no surprise. We wanted a tracker offset mortgage. This means that we are able to receive no interest on the funds in our current or savings accounts but pay no interest on the balances. We are paying ...
...if the base rate does which is great news. The best thing about the N&P mortgage is the very low arrangement fee £550 compared to £2500 for a similar product with Standard Life!!!!! The service that we have received so far is also good -we had a free survey of the house - the guy turned up when he said he would and even refused tea and biscuits! We have also had free legal work - they have also been very efficient. N&P staff also seem very friendly ... Read review

Disadvantages: Branches not located across the UK

...good one) I found that Nottingham Building society were offering a 1 year fixed rate account with minimum investment of £1000 for an interest rate of 5.15% which I thought was worth a closer look. A bit further down I will explain about the different characteristics of the account. ++++++++How can you contact them++++++++ --Website-- My first port of call as I am sure nowadays many peoples is was their website (http://www.thenottingham.com/) which ...
...through the usual “Good afternoon, Nottingham Building Society etc…”). I then explained that I wanted some more information on a 1 year fixed rate account and after taking my details – name, telephone number, address etc… she informed me inline with the Data protection act that my details would be kept on their system for 6 months before being deleted if I decided not to go ahead with the account. With that she told me that the information pack would ... Read review

Nothing "Express" about Mortgage Express....
Review of Mortgage Express Ltd by mrtesttube69

Advantages: They are efiicient in taking your hard earned money from you....
Disadvantages: Everything - poor website, communication, unprofessional and a joke outfit!

...house 2 years ago through Mortgage Express and it took 2 months for them to arrange my mortgage! I decided to sell in November so that I could move in with my partner. An offer was made for the asking price and in early December 07, my solicitor wrote to them requesting the deeds of my house. Just before Christmas I rang my solicitor to see if they had arrived and - nope they had not. On the 3rd January my solicitor rang me to inform me that my Mortgage ...
...endless letters between my solicitor, Mortgage Express and the Solicitors in Middlesex, no-one could locate my house deeds I rang my very frustrated solicitor today for an update on my house deeds and she told me that they have received nothing yet. So I decided to ring ME - and give them a piece of my mind as they could be ruining my house sale for me and the people buying my house could withdraw at any time. Listen to to this....... I rang M.E ... Read review

Not so good anymore
Review of Tesco (Account) by stuartcorey

Advantages: Can pay for your shopping out of account, can pay money into account at cash register, I\'m struggling...
Disadvantages: Uncompetitive interest rate, awful on-line facilities, simply not as good as its competitors

...accounts is taking over, and Tesco will need to improve its once heralded financial service, if it is to effectively compete. I joined Tesco Personal Finance within weeks of its creation, just a few years ago. At the time, as reflected by the other, now out-dated opinions, it was the best savings account on offer. Its interest rates were way above anything its rivals could offer, and it seemed such a straightforward new way of banking. But, as I ...
...Firstly, and most importantly, Tesco have for so long prided themselves on their high, \"unbeatable\" rates of interest. Contrary to what they would have you believe, this is no longer the case. My most recent correspondence with Tesco revealed that they were reducing their rate of interest to just 4.1%. It didn\'t take much research on my part to discover that this was far less than I could get elsewhere. Indeed, I found at least eleven other companies ... Read review

ROCK OF AGES - HI HO SILVER
Review of Northern Rock by JeffreyB

Advantages: POSTAL BANKING - HIGH INTEREST
Disadvantages: BRANCHES

...for a second opinion) found Northern Rock and suggested the Silver Savings Account it has 1 or 2 similarities. The interest rate is linked to the Bank rate and postal and telephone banking is available. The website I reviewed earlier has details on the account; you can find it at northernrock.co.uk . I managed to get further details from a leaflet posted to me from a London branch. It outlines the terms and conditions set out as rights and obligations. ...
