The agents acting for accuread are allocated quotas and have to attend a set number of properties. Like most people they tend to work a normal 9-5 with some call backs a little later if you are lucky. The level of customer service tends to vary from each individual agent. My experience is that they are quite impatient. They tend to knock on the door and literally start to fill in cards saying they have attended as they wait.

I also find it strange that they want to come and check my meters even though I have a pre-payment card. I wonder if they don't believe me or if they are checking to see whether I'm fiddling the supply?

Generally, they are no less efficient then when British gas came around they are just less patient. This is more a reflection of changes in society, they are not particularly well paid and both the falling standards in literacy and numeracy brought on by the over reliance on simple technology doesn't help. Added to this the skill shortage means that some employees are not equipped to do the job.

I would say that I am no more than satisfied and possibly a little disappointed with the service. I don't seem to have seen them knocking on my door recently so they've either got the message or they just ain't bothered any more!!!

It all seems to be the usual placing more of the burden of responsibility on the individual/customer and negating the corporate municipal support that made it bearable in the past.
