My son was forever moaning that the monitor he hade was not good enough, and really wanted a new one. The only thing was he wanted a 17" monitor but his bedroom is not very big so the only answer was to look for a flat screen monitor. I had disregarded this idea previously because of the expence. Lucky for me though my son spotted this Acer Monitor for £130 in a newspaper advertisement. It solved the room problem. I purchased this one from my local PC world, as they had it in stock.

The outside of this monitor is reasonably elegant, smooth to the eye with silver facia plastic surrounds, with five control buttons underneath the screen which allow you to adjust screen colour, contrast and positioning of the display. All of these are very easy to use. There are also two internal speakers positioned on either side of the control buttons underneath the screen.

The monitor is held by a plastic bracket, which does not look substantial enough and hold the monitor around three inches above desk level. The monitor clamps onto the bracket with no effort and gives a good range of movement in all axis. You can also purchase a wall mounting bracket for this TFT monitor which I would imagine is even more practical. The monitor itself weighs 5.6 kg which is very light.

The screen display is of very good quality, it supports 24-bit which is around 16 million colours and has a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 and has a very quick refresh rate of 14 milliseconds although this may hinder some game players. This monitor has four backlights which eliminate flickering and distortion which is seen on other models. The two internal speakers supply stereo sound which is of a high quality but does tend to distort at the higher range.

Another advantage to this TFT monitor is it will save you money as it reduces running cost with low power requirements and eliminated emissions. It also has an intergrated system to protect your eyes against strain.

The user manual, although small was very well written, easy to understand. This TFT Acer AL1714ms monitor comes with all relative drivers (Compatible with all operating sytems).

All in all this monitor is excellent value for money and I would have to recommend it, there might well be better TFT monitors about but I don't think you would be able to beat this for the same price.
