The Small print
------------------------------
The most common problem with most ultra-small form factor computers is cooling and chunky external power supplies (Xbox 360 anyone?) But this is not a problem for this little box despite having a Althon 64 3500+ processor under the hood.
Functionality? ...AcerPower 1000 is packing 8 USB 2.0 ports , 4 of which are on the front! Not to mention the rear where you will find the 24pin DVI, VGA, PS/2 (Keyboard), Audio in, out, Mic and headphone interfaces! Also the unit has a Gigabyte (1Gb) 10/100 compatible ethernet connection for highspeed surfing! This unit really does put the Mac Mini to shame.

The most common problem with most ultra-small form factor computers is cooling and chunky external power supplies (Xbox 360 anyone?) But this is not a problem for this little box despite having a Althon 64 3500+ processor under the hood.
Functionality? ----------------------
Not a problem here, the AcerPower 1000 is packing 8 USB 2.0 ports , 4 of which are on the front!
Space and Storage -------------------------------
The unit comes complete with a massive 80Gb highspeed SATA Harddisk drive and a slot feed CD-RW / DVD combo drive (It can read & write CD's, but can only read DVD's not write them) Making it ideal to store all those family photos and movies.
Hand of God? -------------------------
With a Athlon 64 3500+ power plant and 512MB of DDR2 Ram (upgradable to 2Gb!!) you can expect alot from this little box! Or if you fancy a game or two, the unit also has a intregal NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Graphics chipset which will give you the extra little boost you probably won't need.
Or Pandora's box -------------------------------
The only problem with this box is similar to that which it shares with our good old friend the laptop. Due to its small size it lacks the capabilty for serious upgrades, although it sports 2 Dimm sockets for extra Ram and a free 3.5" drive bay it leaves behind our old favorite the PCI-E slot sporting a Mini-PCI slot instead, opening it up to a wide varity of somewhat costly laptop upgrades.
Overall ---------------------
Its tiny, it looks cools, has got more functionality than a paperclip and runs like an xbox 360 on steroids, it does leave behind some upgradabilty. It is an ideal alternative to the Mac Mini and would easily suit a large number of applications home or office. Ideal for those who have to play table tetris every morning to find a place for their coffee or have multiple USB devices.Vista Capable.

Quick review of Acer AcerPower 1000
This systems appeared at first to be good but when I went to remove the "Empowering Technology" the system would not allow it! It is also impossible to do a fresh install of Windows XP, Linux or any other OS. I finally had to turn to Acer tech support who just sent System Restore disks that were not able to restore the system. Now its a 3-4 week wait for depot repair. Stay away from this compact pile of garbage! ...

Designed for today's digital office, the AcerPower 1000 is small and stylish yet packs a powerful punch. This ultra-compact system has a physical volume of just over three quarts (three liters), about one-tenth the size of typical tower desktops. The almost-silent operation of the AcerPower 1000 (26 decibels, better than the industry standard) is conducive to a productive work environment. In addition, its low power consumption prolongs component life and reduces long-term costs.
