Advantages: Beautiful print quality scans-Extremely easy to use software. Quick copy utility. Extremely easy installation and setup of software. Disadvantages: Scanner is exceptionaly large,
...When scanning 35mm photos I don't think any scanner can exceed the quality of the Acer. If you're scanning for web pictures then a 300dpi resolution is more than adaquate for a quality picture and the scan time is very short. If you want to scan at a higher resolution for prints this option is available, along with different scaling settings, and a multitude of other settings. All of which are easy to understand and work exceptionaly well. For pictures this scanner can't be beat. Another plus is the fact that it can be purchased on Ubid.com. Most bids on it don't exceed £40 and with shipping the total cost was £60. Then there's a £10 rebate, There is an OCR Utility with the unit, maybe someone else can shed some light on this as I don't use it. It was purchased mainly for scanning pictures and copying text (unchanged). Another software...

Advantages: Easy setup - Price - Quality. Disadvantages: Takes a while to reset after a heavy scan.
...I got a really good deal on this scanner, $29.99 after $30 mail in rebate.
I have been using scanners as a software writer for years and have experienced the quirks of many. The home brand leaders (HP and Umax) both have their little oddities, so does the acer!
This scanner has a very simple setup procedure. You plug the cable into your printer socket and then your printer links from your scanner, Easy!
Load the software and bobs your uncle. Off you go.
Photos can take a while to scan if you use more than 200x200dpi resolution, especially if you scan a block of four at a time (block of four postcard sized at 300x300dpi took about 5 minutes).
When you have scanned an image it seems to take a while for the scanner to reset. Try and scan another image straight away and you will find that the software driver cannot find the scanner...

Advantages: lightweight ,does the job Disadvantages: poor build quality
...My two month old Acer n30 just died sat on my desk in it's proporta armoured case (this is a nice case). I returned it to expansys who returned it to Acer they said the reset button that is well recessed inside the case was damaged and therefore the warranty was void. This is nonsense.
This does not come with a cradle which is a great minus point, the cable is very flimsy and the metal contacts were bending before the thing died on me. I will say it ran the software I needed it to run although this was not very demanding. The machine is light weight and slim
So beware Acer n30s are liable to self destruct, or perhaps it is the build quality
my experience of reliability really does overshadow any plus points I can make...
