Advantages: Cheap, Good Performace Disadvantages: Not HT, L2 Cache could be bigger, Easy to install if you know how.
..., the processor is more than capable for video encoding and gaming.
It's kind of difficult to evaluate how this processor could be better, given that there are alternatives available, and if you were wanting HT for example, you wouldnt even bother with this processor. For what it is, there are no disadvantages. If you wanted a faster processor, go for a 3.4ghz, the general rule is, make sure when you're upgrading, the new processor is atleast 1ghz faster than what you currently have. (Presuming you have an old Pentium 4 machine or equivalent. With the new models, this rule doesnt apply as there are more factors to take into account with newer processors than ghz. e.g Dual core, core 2 etc). Ofcourse, it would benefit from HT or a bigger cache size, but there are CPUs that do this for more or less the same price.

Advantages: Very Fast, Latest technology Disadvantages: Not 64 bit like AMD, heat problems
...In the second on my series of computer component reviews, I would like to offer you the Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8Ghz.
---------------------
Prescott?
---------------------
Intel have produced 5 versions of their pentium 4 range. The first was the Willamite which would only accept RD RAM and was very short lived. The next was the Northwood, which is the one which sits in most computers nowadays.
Then there's the ridiculously expensive Extreme Edition, for really silly gamers who want huge performance from their machines. And of course the P4-M for laptops. This processor is designed to give max performance on the move.
But there's a new version on the block called Prescott. This, I decided, was the chip for me.
Firstly, it's got the 800MHz front serial bus found in the later versions of the Northwood. The FSB speed makes...

Advantages: Extremely fast and reliable Disadvantages: Obsolete to newer processors
...is still good.
Without overclocking it, it runs very fast and does not give any trouble. After 2 months i overclocked it to 2.9Ghz (to stay safe, i did not go 3Ghz). It works really good and does increase my game play afew frames per second.
Since writing this Core 2 Duo has been released. Because it has been released, this is now the obvious choice to get now. ( i will be writing a review of it soon to show how great it is).
If you dont want to spend too much and the Pentium D 920 2.8Ghz is at a good price or cheap, it is really worth getting. There is alot of powerful processing without any extra hassle.
Hope you found this useful....
