Compared to my old 333Hz desktop, this machine goes like the wind! In my opinion it is a fast, reliable and ultimately portable computer with all the features you would expect from a normal desktop PC.
Spec is as follows:-
Mobile AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1400+, 14.1" XGA TFT display, 128MB SDRAM, 20GB HDD, 24x CD-ROM, wired LAN 10/100, 56Kbps modem, Ni-MH battery, Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
The 1.4 GHZ processor makes it fast enough for any home or office applications and it is good at multitasking. Computer Buyer tested eight notebooks based on applications that a user would normally use on a desktop, such as Word, Excel and CorelDraw. All manufacturers were graded on features, ergonomics, portability and performance but the reviewer commented that "If you want a PC for surfing the net and doing some word processing and other functions, the Aspire is more than able to cope with this". Computer Buyer noted that "the Aspire 1300X manages to pick up a Recommended award just by being such gob-smackingly good value for money".
I have successfully used a USB mouse, printer and cd rewriter from a UBS hub with no problems. The pre-installed windows XP just picks up that a new peripheral has been added and away you go.
There are other Acer Laptops in the range, it all depend on how far your pocket money will go!
Overall a good buy with bags of features and processing power.A+
Advantages: Good Looks Disadvantages: Bad Memory and overall performance
I've had my Acer Aspire for about a year now, and desperately need to upgrade. Although I have gotten a lot of use from this computer, I have also had a lot of problems with it. The main problems I have had involve the lack of available memory, and that it crashes too often. This could be due in part to not having adequate memory for all of the applications I use, but this is not the entire problem. There are times when I have nothing open except ... ...need. It is much too slow and has inadequater memory. For the price its ok, nothing special (iv seen some going for about $1699). Lacks tremendously with grapgics. Though Acer do have style on their style but that wont keep you up with market if you buy one. ...

A bargain? Review ofAcer Aspire 1300DXVby
cheffie1
Advantages: Compact, value for money Disadvantages: no USB ports for mouse etc!
Had never heard of the Acer brand before but as the laptop was on special offer in shop and appeared to be a bargain, we gritted our teeth and went ahead. Over the first few weeks after purchase we realised that the laptop has no USB ports or ports for mouse etc so you have to use the touch pad, like it or not. However for a basic, home use laptop for the average user it does what it needs to do! Would not recommend this model for any business use ...

Advantages: Small and Lightweight Disadvantages: Lacking in Power
This little notebook is an absolute gem for people on the go. It is small, lightweight and its simple design makes it one of the more attractive notebooks out there! It's great for working on microsoft word, excel etc but it may not compare to the performance of some of the more modern notebooks that technology has to offer. If your after something for work and only work or watching dvds on the train or airplane, get it. This notebook has 20GB of ... ...work, doccuments etc on (I am yet to have it crash!) If you want to do some occasional gaming it has to be a no. It lacks the processor of graphics card to play games. The ultra thin 14.1 inch TFT will make anything you do look spectacular
The procesor is a mere AMD Athlon XP running at a maximum of 1.2 GHz
The 20gb hard drive is relatively quick and is big enough
The graphics card is severely hampering the notebook's performance; It is just 32mb ...
