...My daughter bought her Acer Laptop just over 2 ½ years ago, hoping that it would last her for the duration of her degree. At just under £800 it was not cheap!
During the 2 years warranty the floppy drive stopped working and was a hassle to get it repaired and returned by Acer, due to them waiting for parts.
Just outside of the guarantee it broke down again. I contacted Acer by email and these were not even acknowledged, despite sending several reminders being sent. I phoned their "escalation" department and left voice mail messages for someone to ring me back, but no one did. In desperation I even wrote to the UK Managing Director twice to try and get a response. I could not address him/her personally, because the switchboard at their head office refused to provide a name! Several weeks later they finally wrote to me and basically...

Not good for much Review ofAcerAspire1301XC - AthlonXP1500+ 1.3GHz - 14.1" TFTby
Sato_Del
Advantages: Long lasting battery, fairly cheap Disadvantages: Poor specs
...The AcerAspire1301XC. The question isn't how good this is the question needing to be asked is why it was made. This has a 1.3 processor which is ok but the thing about laptops is that they have good processors to make up for the lack of good graphics cards. Sure the battery lasts for ages but that isn't everything. You will never manage to play the newest games on this.
They reccomend this to for home use but isn't the point of laptops being portable and besides the only good thing about this is it battery. My recommendation to people thinking of buying this is not too. Its simply not worth the price you can get something much better on a desktop. In my experience I would have said to get a Toshiba or an IBM they may not look great but at least there good value for money.
The other thing is if they were going to make it for people...

...Compared to my old 333Hz desktop, this machine goes like the wind! In my opinion it is a fast, reliable and ultimately portable computer with all the features you would expect from a normal desktop PC.
Spec is as follows:-
Mobile AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1400+, 14.1" XGA TFT display, 128MB SDRAM, 20GB HDD, 24x CD-ROM, wired LAN 10/100, 56Kbps modem, Ni-MH battery, Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
The 1.4GHZ processor makes it fast enough for any home or office applications and it is good at multitasking.
Computer Buyer tested eight notebooks based on applications that a user would normally use on a desktop, such as Word, Excel and CorelDraw. All manufacturers were graded on features, ergonomics, portability and performance but the reviewer commented that "If you want a PC for surfing the net and doing some word processing and other...

I bought mine on ebay for £360, I needed it for university study and it's working really well for small documents like word and excel and it will also play some games well, mainly Unreal Tournament online :-)
The disk space of 60GB is plenty for me.... more
I for one, absolutely love the look of this acer. The bottom of the laptop just looks really cool, and the top looks ok too. One only criticism on the look, would be that the plastic at the tip of the screen is a little thick, but then again it does have more
