Brought an acer 1315LM last August for just over £850. Had to send it back for repairs after 11 months as it wouldn't turn on, acer returned it after 3 days stating nothing was wrong! It fixed itself in transit - never had a problem since?
The LCD screen is very bright and clear with no blurring, although from time to time it goes a bit darker, something to do with the battery saving I believe. Never tried the TV out as no wire is included but did attempt to use dual monitors with the laptop screen and standard monitor - couldn't get it to work.
No windows XP cd is provided, instead you have a XP restore disk made from norton ghost. The version I had was totally unstable and crashed every 30 minutes, only when I did a real format did the laptop become totally stable. Drivers are available on the acer website.
While it may of been a XP fault I had lots of crashes when disconnecting from the internet - system just hung. Since I now use a USB wifi key and router I no longer see this problem.
While its not supported I did get windows 2000 working on the machine for a period of 3 months with no problems. There are no 2000 drivers but most items plug and played and the parts that didn't the XP drivers worked on.
Battery life is very poor after 12 months, I'm lucky to get 25 minutes out of it although I only use it plugged into the mains.
Only real problem is the fan noise, on around 10 seconds every 2 minutes and after prolonged use the case get hot.
If using the DVD writer make sure you uninstall the preinstalled writing software and install something decent like Nero. Takes around 30 minutes for a DVD to be burnt at 2 speed.
Don't expect to play the latest games, the graphics card is fine for windows and plays qlquake great but its too slow for the likes of Unreal Torn. If doing an total restore don't use the plug and play mircosoft drivers, use the faster savagepro ones - turns on openql support.
Memory upgrades of 512 Meg can be brought from around £60.
Even after my problems its a great machine and I would recommend to anyone.

I bought an Acer 1315LM last August as it was a very good price at just under £800.
For that price, I was getting 256Mb of RAM, a 15" TFT LCD screen, a massive 40GB hard drive (which was large at the time for a laptop), and a DVD-RW drive.
It came pre-installed with Windows XP, 3 months of Norton Anti-Virus, and Cyberlink PowerDVD. The last one was useful as the laptop also has TV out, so I now watch DVDs by linking up my laptop to my widescreen ... ...negated the need for a separate DVD player.
Functionality, it is reasonably fast, wich means you don't have to wait an eternity for something to load up.
The drawback to this laptop is the noise the fan makes. It is very loud!!!! The other drawbacks, which is probably minor for most people, was that it only had 2 USB ports (albeit USB 2.0) and it did not have IrDA.
Overall, for the specification, it was excellent value for money and after a year, ...

I for one, absolutely love the look of this acer. The bottom of the laptop just looks really cool, and the top looks ok too. One only criticism on the look, would be that the plastic at the tip of the screen is a little thick, but then again it does have more
