My son purchased one of these just over a year ago ( I think they were around £299 then) because he was concerned about taking the almighty and much loved macbook to University every day on the train ( we love our macs at least as much as we love the dog in this house). I think he carried this thing for about a week before he decided he could bear it no longer and the mac regained its rightful place in his bag. It was then passed onto his brother, one week after the one year guarantee expired, the pin in the centre of the power inlet socket, snapped off. We were quoted £50 for someone to take ... more

It is also really sturdy - mine has been bashed about as I carry it constantly to and from university and I have never had a problem with it. 1 Star Quick review of Acer Aspire 5050 by wehwethtrghr 05/01/2009
doesn't work with vista - non compatible - firstly you need at least 1.5 GB RAM just for it to function - but i've had 4 now, and all had the same problem of just random freezing - and you can't downgrade to xp due to proprietary bios and hardware - absolute piece of junk - you would be better burning your money

Advantages Advantages Comes with various DVD making programs.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Often slow, depleted battery and less durable than others.

I purchased this laptop as a result of as deal with a free printer, otherwise I probably wouldn't have got this model. I often find this laptop slow with limited memory capacity. I am student and therefore use my laptop daily. I have been able to write all my assignments however had to download OpenOffice for free as this laptop did not have Microsoft Ofiice installed and I couldn't afford to buy it. I have installed itunes and have plenty of downloaded music but this seems to slow the laptop down. After only 12 months the catch on the laptop broke therefore it doesn't appear very durable. The ... more
