I have found this laptop to be very useful for school work as it is very fast and has a large memory. Despite this the battery power is very unpredictable and is not what it says on the box.
my also recent problem is the dvd drive failing to work. I have tried to find a solution online and have found many other people with same problem.
further more the laptop despite its problems has a large screen and is very easy to navigate. The laptop is also for people who need to do work or people that just want to play game on it.
the laptop appearance is not stylish but it does not look rubbish. the back of my laptop has scratch marks which have appeared very easily. so if you were to buy the acer i would advice a cover and a good laptop bag.
I would advise you to buy because it is not a bad price at 400 plus and is also a laptop that everyone can use. The problem is would you risk a dvd drive failure?

I dont like to bring it with me everywhere because it's still heavy to carry it around to school or work. It's Vista ...

Advantages: Size Disadvantages: Reliability, Lost data due to reliability issues
I purchased the Aspire L5100 at the beginning of 2008. In my experience this PC is a bad buy.
The pros: small design, good for those with limited space
The cons:
It looks good because of its compact design, but this is the problem. Because it is so small and everything is crammed together there is no room for air to circulate. The PC freezes daily and has to be unplugged to restart. Freezes increase as the weather heats up.
Shortly after the warranty expired the DVD/CD began playing up. It is a daily gamble what music and videos will play. Writing discs is not even an option anymore.
Having had these experiences I advise anyone considering purchase of this model to think carefully.
Note. This is my second attempt writing this review as the PC froze midway. ...
Advantages: Everything you could want, particularly amazing multimedia handling. Disadvantages: Gamers beware
The AcerAspire L5100 is an economical, yet complete package for the everyday home computer user.
Behind it's small, ultra-compact chassis lies a powerhouse in entertainment; the latest spec for modern home theatre, AMD LIVE!, boasts exceptional and smooth management of your multimedia, the main atrraction for me of this Acer product.
It exudes elegance and chicness in an understated manner; it measures 25cm by 20cm by 6cm and looks fantastic. It therefore feels and looks right at home in a minimalist, stress-free environment.
Due to its cheap price tag of roughly ~£330 one would expect corners to have been cut, but this is not the case.
It has an excellent dual-core AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor, an adequate 500GB harddrive to store all your music, films, and videos on, 2GB of RAM, and all the other gimmicks one ...

::::WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM::::
Windows Vista Home Premium comes built in with this laptop. To me it does look like MacOSX, but its got that 'Windows Effect' ;-)
Like it's cheaper, compatible with more stuff and is more widely used.
I like the Aero interface, just a click away ...
The 5100 series from Acer provides for the home market who demand performance and stability. Featuring the latest 64 bit technology and solid specifications these laptops are designed to last, therefore proving to be a sound investment.
