Acer decided to add an extra Aspire Gemstone Blue model laptop. I was lucky to get a hold of him as my friend purchased it, and I was using it for a while, he asked me to install some software and configure his Vista so the notebook going to work properly. The first touch was a surprise I expected it’s going to weight more than 2.8 kg, it’s a really light notebook, and thanks to its glossy sapphire-blue Gemstone cover and intricately textured palmrest it’s a pleasure to touch it.
I opened it and, I have thought nothing new inside, which is actually good because you don’t need to get used to some new type of using it. The screen is 15.6”, it’s really sharp and it’s a pleasure to work with it, the eyes don’t get tired thanks to high definition CineCrystal screen that Acer installed in this notebook. The buttons are quiet, which for me is really important I hate to work with loud keyboards.
Now the sound system, I’ve heard that they installed the 3rd Generation Dolby-optimized surround sound system and I was wondering how it’s going to work because last time I was fixing my other friend notebok when I wanted to listen loud to my music the speakers were “farting” instead of playing music. Fortunate for Acer they did a great job with this notebook sound, it’s really clear and even when you put on almost loudest it stays that way.
Hardware, I was surprised to see Turion X2 (2.20 GHz) processor, but it does a good job, graphic card Radeon 4570 (512 MB) works well, for fun I have installed Unreal Tournament 3 on it and for first time I enjoyed myself playing it on notebook, there were no big FPS drops. 4 GB of DDR2 ram do the job. Performance of this notebook is exactly as I expected for this price, it’s a fair trade of power for this money.
My only concern about this notebook was the battery, it was not holding as long as it supposed to. Actually it kept the notebook alive for half time of what it’s supposed to. Maybe my friend formatted it wrongly with first few charges, but I need to write everything about this notebook so that’s the only minus I found in 2 days of using it.
Acer gave this notebook a DVD recorder, internet camera (0.3 megapixel), WiFi, reader of memory cards and trackpad which use multitouch technology.
I think that the best use of it would be as an HD video player, and its pretty good for gaming I’m not sure is it going to work as an office notebook because when I’ve launched few applications at the same time, it’s performance dropped . Although the problem with battery life adds a big question mark about this Acer product. Acer Aspire 5536G is a good quality notebook for this money.
