My laptop was bought for £399 including Windows 7 from PC world in November 2009.
I mainly use my laptop for work (specifically number crunching on Excel spreadsheets and typing prose in emails and Word), internet shopping, banking and watching films/catch-up TV. I am not a gamer and only occasionally use Skype although with the built in webcam that this laptop boasts I am starting to use it more purely due to the ease.
To start with, the keyboard is perfect for someone who is used to touch typing. My previous laptops have had quite shallow keys and have not been particularly comfortable or easy to type at speed. The Acer Aspire has soft, large and comfortable keys making it easy to type accurately and at speed. In addition, it has a number of shortcut keys that allow for ease of navigation during work. An example of these shortcut keys include the “P” key, which can be programmed to open whichever application you wish. This is handy if you regularly pop in and out of a specific application and do not wish to go through the start menu every time to open it.
The wide screen on this laptop makes it great for watching films and TV and the audio is very clear without that tinny sound that can sometimes be found on laptops. As I mentioned before, I do not do much gaming (I don’t think you can count minesweeper!) but a friend of mine has the same laptop and cannot praise the graphics highly enough for the price.
In short, this laptop is excellent value for money for someone who is not hugely technical and only uses their computer lightly for emails, burning discs, Office or Internet shopping/browsing etc. It is stylish and elegant, as well as being incredibly light. Combined with the impressive battery life, this would be an ideal laptop for someone who likes to take it out and about to work on.
I would definitely recommend this particular laptop to others and would strongly consider Acer for future IT purchases.

Although they are a usually a lot cheaper, you do definitely not loose any of the high quality computing power. This laptop is based at mid range users, ideal for internet and email usage, but also very capable of document creating, downloads etc. The only problem you may have with the laptop is gaming capabilities. I have not tried any games, but the ... ...However, on to the positives. The processor is very much capable of basic tasks, with a very quick response time. This is due to the intel processor (CPU) have a very quick speed of 2.0GHz (the speed at which is can perform operations) and this is also combined with the 3GB of RAM memory to maximize its potential speed. The hard drive is 160gb, which is a lot of songs, roughly 40,000, but can be quickly filled up if other files or videos are also ...

I have owned an Acer PC for about 2 years and have been totally impressed with it - even when accessing their support they had been so helpful so I was really pleased to receive this brilliant little laptop as a Christmas present. I use it mainly for internet (including shopping, banking and accessing my work remotely), e-mail with some word processing and use of Excel. It comes with a trial version of Office (Home and Student) as well as ... ...It has a host of other "freebies". I am not a gamer so I am unable to comment on its capabilities as far as that is concerned. I would agree with an earlier reviewer regarding the open/close catch which is a little awkward to use. There are only two USB ports which is ok for me, but others may find that more of a problem. Not having had the use of a laptop before I feel that maybe the battery life could be better, but as mainly a home user this is ...
