It takes a lot to get my lazy backside to write a review online, in fact I have not done this before, but I am so impressed with Acers Aspire 5920 I just can't keep quiet about this machine and have a strange urge to shout from the rooftops all about its virtues.
I was not looking for a new laptop, as I have a decent PC in a box at home but after playing with a Acer 5920 in a shop the other day, I have for the first time in my life fallen in love with a bit of hardware! I am now saving like mad and intend to get one in the next few weeks.
And to those pundits in the mags slagging of its styling, clean your specs and see some daylight, this thing is beauty incarnate. I can honestly say after trying this machine I now sneer at everything else. Wow, what an impact.
I want one. I want one! and plenty of places to get one for around £770. can not be beaten for now me thinks.
Specifications (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7300) Intel's latest advanced technology, "Santa Rosa means Faster la Vista to slow speed" so upgrading will be put off a bit longer than most current available machines and it also is designed to be better with power usage.
(160GB hard drive) Nice large hard drive for a laptop, pity it is only 5400rpm as I would prefer 7200rpm for video work.
(15.4in Acer CrystalBrite TFT LCD) "Clear and bright screen" Some have complained about screen glare from its shiny surface, but without the screen cover that creates this, sticky little fingers would damage the delicate LCD pixels, next time you are in a P.C. shop, try pressing gently on the uncovered screen and see how easily they get displaced.
(256MB nVidia GeForce 8600M) At last a DX10 graphics card, may not appear that important now but soon when all the new software comes out that will need it, you can smile at your mates as they are replacing there machines.
(DVD-SuperMulti optical drive) Watch and burn too your hearts content.
(802.11a/b/g/Draft N; Bluetooth) And if you forget to pay your phone bill you can roam the streets, find a hotspot and compose an apology letter with promise to pay and keep coming back till its sorted.
(0.3 Mega pixel camera) Its nice to have a web cam with out all the cables and times when you don't expect to need one, pity it is relatively low resolution compared to the best.
(Dolby Home Theater Virtual Surround Sound speakers built into the machine) Next time I get annoyed by mobile phones users shouting out personal love life details on the train I will get my own back and drown them out with this very nice feature.
Regarding the styling of the Acer Aspire 5920, done by the Guys at BMW. I just love its Shiny Black exterior, sort of reminds me of that space ship stolen at the end of the universe in Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. It may be dark on the outside but open it up and reveal its creamy ceramic look and feel type of plastic coating, sort of satin touch too to give its Ying some Yang. Plus as an old time computer user, gives me a pleasant nostalgic experience and reminds me a little of the good old days before Microsoft dominated the market and we all loved our Commodore Amiga's and Atari ST.
Not everything is perfect. Slight niggles with this machine are low resolution camera and not the fastest Hard drive available, but what the heck this machine retails for under £800. I have not seen anything else to beat it for the price and true style is priceless.
