After researching laptops for months and months to find a suitable model to use for university, i settled comfortably with the acer aspire, as it has many advantages compared to other laptops with similar specifications.

For my course i need a lot of memory, and so the 250GB hardrive was a big attraction for me. The laptop in fact has two separate drives each with over 100GB of disk space. This allows you to separate your data appropriately, for example i keep all of my media such as music on pictures on the D drive while i install my programmes and keep important data on the C drive.
The laptop also has 2GB RAM and so i instantly noticed a difference in speed between it and my old dell desktop computer. You can have many applications running at one time without anything crashing or slowing down. The 5920 uses intel centrino core 2 duo processors, and so with the most up to date technology the machine runs like a dream.

The wireless technology allows you to connect to the internet with ease, and has quite a big range for connecting. For example my broadband router is kept in the downstairs living room, and i can access the broadband from my bedroom upstairs.
The wireless functionality is easily switched off with the WLAN button to the left of the keyboard.
On the same button strip there are also buttons for internet, email and bluetooth. These are set to the default internet and email applications, however you can personalise them to start your preferred programmes.

To the right of the keyboard, there is a strip of touch buttons that control your media player, these can also be set to open your preferred programme. I use i-Tunes, and the buttons automatically control playback once i-Tunes has been set as the default media programme. There is a play/pause button, a stop button and buttons to skip the track forward and back. There is also a button to start an acer media programme that allows you to burn cd's and make dvd's etc. The properties of the buttons can be altered to set the sensitivity, so that you dont accidentally press them just by brushing over them. This works quite effectively, however with mine set to low sensitivity i still sometimes find that i unintentionally open the cd/dvd maker which can sometimes be quite irritating.

The laptop has virtual dolby built in, and also has a subwoofer, and so playing music or dvd's sounds much better quality than most laptops could achieve. It can also reach a reasonably high volume, and does not distort when turned up to full volume, a flaw that can be found with many laptops.

There are a few different models with varying features. My laptop has an HD DVD player where some other cheaper 5920 models do not.
They all however have a 15.4 crystalbrite LCD screen that makes watching dvd's a greater experience, as the picture is excellent and each colour is defined perfectly.

The laptop also has acer technology built in which has its own information strip on the desktop. From this you can access internet options and easily choose a network to connect to, assess your battery life, change the sound options within a range of settings such as movie and games, change the screen resolution, edit security properties, set recovery points and alter overall settings of the laptop. There is also an acer button to the top right of the keyboard that allows you to access this on top of other windows.

There is a built in webcam in the top centre of the screen casing that takes excellent pictures as well as working as a camera for messangers and communications programmes such as skype.

The overall casing of the laptop is very sturdy and leaves you confident that it will not break easily.
When taking it anywhere i use a targus laptop bag to keep it protected.

Overall i would definitely recommend this laptop as it has served me very well so far and has been able to cope with everything i ask it to do.
It is also much cheaper than a lot of laptops with similar specifications, and so is a great buy with a lot of value for money.
