Advantages: Cheap for the specifications Disadvantages: Unreliable
...Bought this laptop for university and some game play. VGA board soon went wrong, so sent it in to be fixed. Ended up waiting 3 weeks for its return, eventually accepting a replacement laptop, but they didn't honour it, and sent the old laptop back fixed. 6 months down the line, the same thing went wrong again. The support would not listen to me, and I ended up spending another £100 on a new VGA board, the liklihood of which will go wrong again.
Tech and Customer support is USELESS, it seems that to Acer you are simply a way of making money. Think twice about buying from them...
Sorry to be so negative, but have not had good experiences with this laptop!!!...

Advantages: Cheap but powerful Disadvantages: poor heat sink design
...This product is excellant value for money, considering it is so cheap. It is excellant if you use your computer mainly for office work and watching videos. If you want to play top end games then it isnt so good, as the graphics card isnt supported by nvidia anymore but can play games like Counter-Strike and Half-Life 2. Acer do offer driver support but only for the operating systems that comes on it (i.e. Windows XP and 64, NO VISTA SUPPORT). The 64bit part is abit of controversial as there may not be any real bonus to having it.
A common problem i found is after a few months the laptop may start to ramdomly power off. In my case this is due to poor heat sink design, and envolves pulling the panels off from either side of the laptop where the screen hinges are, unscrewing the hotkey panel. The heat sink should be visable, unscrewing...

Advantages: Fast CPU Disadvantages: On current standards dated graphics.
...I bought one of these laptops, it must be nearly 3 years ago now, and in short i am very impressed with its performance and value.
I went for the best at the time, Athlon643400+ if i remember correctly, 512MB RAM and 80GB hard drive.
Although the 64MB GeForce FX 5700 is not the fastest it does a reasonable job at most of the games i have thrown at it.
For example it will run Colin McRae Rally 4/Call of Duty 2 in 1024x768 on standard detail setting, smoothly.
The 80GB hard drive was top end when new, but is now starting to look inadequate compared to new models on the market, but it is easily upgradeable.
The 512MB RAM as standard consisted of 2 x 256MB sticks, i replaced one of these with a 1GB stick and it was well worth it.
After less than a year the graphics board went belly up and was quickly replaced under warranty. This has...
